West Virginia Democratic Party’s Statement on Delegate Jason Barrett’s Party Switch

“Delegate Jason Barrett has prioritized his own political ambitions over the interests and the will of the voters of the 61st District,” said Rod Snyder, Vice-Chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. “Delegate Barrett was dishonest with his own constituents about the agenda he intends to support in Charleston. The West Virginia Democratic Party and the Berkeley County Democratic Executive Committee will begin working together immediately to find the strongest possible candidate for 2022 to provide an alternative to Delegate Barrett’s self-serving opportunism.”

“In the House Democratic Caucus, we know the task at hand, in a volatile climate during a time marked by divisiveness and pandemic, we will have to put forward an agenda that truly represents the needs of a population that is hurting,” said Delegate Doug Skaff, House Minority Leader. “With 23 out of 100 members, will this be a challenge? Yes, but with that challenge there will be growth, understanding, and a future where we can advance policies that rebuild our communities, and West Virginians can thrive here at home. That was the plan discussed not even one week ago with Delegate Barret in attendance. So, if one does not feel equipped to take this on, truly build something from the ground-up, and stand firm in their values when the chips are down, then this isn’t the Caucus or Party for you.”

We all must have the ability to safely cast our vote this November!

“❗️🗳 Every registered voter in West Virginia deserves to cast their vote safely and without obstacles, but not according to Secretary of State Mac Warner.

‼️ Mac Warner is leaving voters in the dark with no plan.

📫 In the primary election, voters received an absentee ballot application and were able to vote from the safety of their own homes. That is what voters are expecting again for the general election.

✏️ Please sign our petition to tell Mac Warner that every registered voter in West Virginia should receive an absentee ballot application due to the circumstances and safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. - West Virginia Democratic Party”

Thank you, Senator Bernie Sanders. It's time we send someone who prioritizes our people (not corporate interests) to Washington. But to do it, we'll need all the help we can get to flip this seat in November.

Check out this post from Bernie and see why we need to send Paula J Swearengin to Washington to fight for West Virginia values.

Paula Jean will be a senator who stands up to the political and economic establishment, and puts the working class first. I’m proud to endorse her grassroots campaign.

As the daughter and the granddaughter of coal miners, she understands deeply the desperate situation so many West Virginia families find themselves in. She will work tirelessly to ensure the people of Appalachia are treated with dignity. She will lead the charge for clean water and good-paying jobs for all. She understands that we must bridge the gap for families with long histories in the coal mining industry, and that we must support them as we transition to clean energy alternatives. While West Virginians struggle to make ends meet, she has seen firsthand from her families’ experiences the toll a broken economy takes on the health of a community.

She will fight to guarantee health care as a human right. She understands that a Medicare for All single payer system will not only dramatically improve the quality of life of every West Virginian, but it will support small businesses struggling to provide for their employees. Paula Jean is unafraid to take on the greed and corruption of the world’s biggest corporations, including holding accountable the pharmaceutical companies who flooded West Virginia with drugs they knew were dangerous and addictive. She knows that the devastation caused to countless families from the opioid epidemic requires investing in substance abuse services and ensuring that families have access to high quality mental health services.

It’s hard to overestimate the power of Paula Jean becoming West Virginia’s next senator. If a strong progressive like her represented a state with one of the highest poverty rates in the nation, it would be a significant moment in our fight to transform our country so it works for all of us.

I need Paula Jean in the Senate with me, and I hope the people of West Virginia will support her.

Serving as a champion for the eastern panhandle in the legislature for years, John Doyle for Delegate, WV District 67 needs our support for another term.

Whether it's pushing for clean air and water, funding for public education, or smart growth and development, John understands Jefferson County and the people who live here.

When the legislature turned a blind eye to West Virginia teachers, many of them decided enough was enough and it was time to run for office.

Mask up, West Virginia!

CHARLESTON — With coronavirus cases coming in higher the last five days than at any point during the worst of the outbreak last spring, Gov. Jim Justice ordered Monday that masks be worn indoors effective at midnight this evening.

Justice, speaking during a coronavirus briefing Monday at the Capitol, said he will sign an executive order requiring the use of face masks or cloth coverings for all public and private buildings except for homes.

The order does not apply to children under the age of 9 or those who have trouble breathing or otherwise unable to remove face covering without assistance.

We're lucky to have so many candidates fighting for West Virginia values, including our own Sammi Brown for WV House of Delegates 65th District.

Since winning election in 2018, Sammi has shown that she's not afraid to get to work and fight for what's right. Let's send her back to Charleston in November! Learn more about Sammi at

I'm sick and tired of political apathy while our neighbors struggle to survive. It's time for real opportunity and true investment in Jefferson County. We deserve dignity, an economy that works for us all and elected officials who actually serve us. This movement moves because of you. Join us.
