This year's Wire Choir(s) Showcase features not ONE, but TWO Wire Choirs. This free performance is a first of a kind and we're looking to pack Prologue Books at 1:00 for these two FINE groups.

On Saturday, eight 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade orchestra students traveled to Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to participate in the 3rd Annual Excel Honor Orchestra. The students were chosen based on their progress in the Suzuki series books, history of honor orchestra participation, success in solo contests, and director input. This is the largest group of students that Charles City has brought to the festival, and this year, two 6th-grade students, Summer King and Issac Decker, were added. The 7th and 8th-grade students had chair placement auditions. Students were very confident in their audition and did well. Unknowingly, Summer, a 6th grader, volunteered to audition with only the prep she had for the day and earned 2nd chair in the 6-student bass section. Emersyn also earned a 2nd chair spot in the cello section, and Evelyn had the 5th chair in the 1st violins. The students started the day by leaving the high school at 7 am, rehearsed most of the morning with a veteran director from the Twin Cities, had sectional time with the teachers, and had an excellent concert at 3:30. Mr. Paulson commented, "It's a real honor for me to take the kids to this. It's a long day of playing their instruments, and because it is such a large core group of musicians, our program just got a little better. A big thank you to the great group of supportive parents."

For the first time in a LONG time, we will have TWO Wire Choirs perform at the annual Wire Choir Showcase. This year, we have added a very successful Middle School Group, which we call "Wire II." We are also doing this performance on Saturday, May 2nd, at 1:00 at PROLOGUE BOOKS in Charles City. It will be a very fun atmosphere to hear some outstanding music!

Congratulations to Andrew and Nyssa for receiving the first University of Northern Iowa STEM Scholarship this past weekend at the Iowa Regional FIRST Robotics Competition in Cedar Falls. This is awarded to high school seniors that demonstrate achievement and commitment through their participation in the 2025 Iowa Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and academic performance.

2026 Jivin' with Jazz, featuring Charles City Schools Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Groups. Doors open at 5:30pm, Meal is served at 6pm, music starts at 6:30pm.
