A ghost hunting experience at Historic Berkeley Plantation
Step beyond the traditional tours into the layered past of Berkeley Plantation, where history and unexplained experiences still linger after dark.

Your after-hours guided experience begins inside the historic 1726 Georgian mansion, where stories of the people, land, and defining moments that shaped Berkeley’s legacy may just come back to life.

As night falls, your experience continues with paranormal investigations across the plantation grounds, cemetery, and historic outbuildings. Explore the supernatural through the layered history of Berkeley Plantation and perhaps leave with a ghost story of your own.

Check-in: 5:30 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. Tour and investigation: 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Ticket includes:
· Full guided Plantation Echoes experience
· After-hours access to designated mansion rooms, grounds, cemetery, and historic outbuildings
· Use of available paranormal research equipment during guided investigations
· Historical interpretation tied to reported paranormal experiences
· Small-group investigative sessions led by experienced guides
· Access to shared story and discussion sessions throughout the evening
· Light refreshments are available during scheduled breaks

Celebrate Labor Day Weekend at Berkeley!

We’re open all weekend from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM, and on Saturday we’re offering special Civil War Tours and a Union Encampment at 9:30, 11:30, and 1:30.

During the summer of 1862, the entire Union Army camped on Berkeley's grounds, using the mansion as a field hospital. On Saturday, these soldiers’ stories will be brought to life as you tour the house and walk the very grounds they once occupied.

Join us for a meaningful step back in time this Labor Day weekend.

A little Berkeley mystery for your timeline… 👀

We found this beautiful old photograph tucked away in our collection, but unfortunately, it came with absolutely no explanation.

Berkeley looks much the same, the boxwoods are looking particularly impressive, and there appear to be a few very well-dressed ladies on the lawn.

Who were they? What was the occasion? What year was it?

We have questions. The photograph has no answers. 😂

So we’re turning it over to you—does anyone remember this day, recognize the event, or have any idea what might have been happening at Berkeley when this photograph was taken?

Sometimes the best part of going through old photographs is discovering just how much history is still waiting for someone to identify it.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our “Archaeologist for a Day” giveaway! We loved seeing your guesses and enthusiasm for history.

Here are the correct answers:
Artifact #1
Eighteenth-century English slipware - an earthenware, comb-decorated circular baking or loaf dish.
Artifact #2
Union Civil War - a stamped brass pommel shield, attached to a saddle and often marked with numerals to indicate seat size.
Artifact #3
Paleo-Indian Period (12,000–8300 BC) — a Clovis projectile point, used to hunt large game.

Back when sheep freely roamed the grounds at Berkeley… 🐑

There was a time when scenes like this were perfectly normal here—sheep grazing right outside the house and wandering across the lawn.

We know some of our longtime visitors probably remember them well, and we’d love to hear your memories!

As for us? Productivity would be absolutely nonexistent if the sheep were still here today. Tours? Gift shop? Office work? Sorry. We’d be outside trying to pet sheep. 😂
