Twenty-five years ago today, the United States of America would suffer the largest terrorist attack in the nation's history. Tragically, 2,977 American lives were lost, and among these fatalities were 71 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, 8 EMTs and paramedics, and 55 military personnel. Even to this day, the number of 9/11 related deaths continue to rise. We grieve for the families of those who lost loved ones. We grieve for the poor souls held captive on the terrorist-hijacked planes. We grieve for those going about their daily lives in the Twin Towers and for those nearby, who could not escape the wreckage as it fell. We grieve for the courageous first responders, who truly embodied ‘service above self’ as each of them gave the ultimate sacrifice to our nation in an attempt to rescue people who they would never know the names of. We grieve as a nation. However, through great tragedy came remarkable unity and a sense of pride to defend our great nation. We were no longer identified as red states or blue states, we were the United States, and every one of us was an American. Twenty-five years later, or two-hundred years later...we will forever keep our promise, and Never Forget the horrific tragedies of September 11th, 2001.
