Today, members of Charles City County Sheriff’s Office conducted in house training involving proper arrest control technics. The purpose of this training is to reinforce expectations regarding proper arrest control techniques, restraint considerations, and inmate transportation procedures. Deputies are reminded that officer safety, subject safety, and reasonable application of restraints must always remain balanced with the totality of circumstances and sound judgment. Charles City County Sheriff’s Office will remain committed to higher standards of training, not only to ensure the safety of our deputies, but those that we encounter as well.

Charles City County Sheriff's Office weekly activity report for June 1-7, 2026. Property checks are us checking on businesses and churches during our routine patrols to make sure that they are secure. Directed Patrols are areas in which we have identified as areas of improper driving behaviors and need extra traffic enforcement. We dedicate time throughout our shift to do traffic enforcement in those area.

Today, on the two year anniversary of Sgt. Floyd Hugo Miles’ End of Watch, Charles City County Sheriff’s Office presented bears to Sgt. Miles’ family. The bears were made out of the very uniform shirts that Sgt. Miles wore on duty. We have also started erecting his memorial wall within the Sheriff’s Office lobby.

Charles City to all units the radio is on hold for roll call. Charles City to unit 5. Charles City to unit 5. Sgt. Floyd Hugo Miles Jr., you unexpectedly left this earth two years ago although we know that you are still physically here. Two years of wondering why. Two years of thinking about you everyday day. But most heartbreaking, two years of missing you. You left soooo many stories here on earth. Enough that your memory will last with us forever. Your family, co-workers and friends miss you so much that those memories help us get through each and every day. Visit as many Dollar Generals as you want to in heaven. Neicy said it’s ok. We will see you on the other side brother. Continue to rest well Brother. Charles City to all units, Radio is clear and can resume normal traffic.

We would like to thank EDA Director, Cynthia Boone and her office for sponsoring the Ride and Chill to raise money to assist with establishing Charles City County Sheriff’s Office first motorcycle unit. Also, thank you to all the motorcycle riders, volunteers, attendees as well as those who graciously donated to make this event a success. We hope to have our motorcycle unit in service no later than July 15th.
