We wanted to let everyone know that the history center will be closed for Juneteenth on Friday. Additionally we will also be closed Wednesday the 17th, Thursday the 18th, and Monday the 22nd. Regular hours of operation will return on Tuesday the 23rd.

Ms. Inger Rice passed May 10th at the age of 96. Rice gifted 342 acres of land along the James River in 2000, the location is currently the home of the VCU Rice Rivers Center.

The Richmond-based philanthropist’s initial gift of 342 acres along the James River has bolstered life sciences education at VCU.

Today we received a donation of three monthly teacher reports, one from 1916, one from 1917, and one from 1918. The following is a very interesting handwritten report from Supervising Industrial Teacher Mary E. Gray in 1918. It mentions "W.S.S.", or War Savings Stamps that were meant to help fund the war effort.
