Hey folks, I wanted to share an update regarding the new library project. There will be a special session of the Planning Commission this Thursday, April 2nd, at 6:30 PM.

- Location: Council Chambers, Chardon Municipal Center
- Topic: The new Geauga County Public Library building.

Important Note: This is a project of the Geauga County Public Library (GCPL), not the City of Chardon. The Planning Commission’s specific role in this session is to review the GCPL's Final Development Plan to ensure that the developer’s plan adhere to our current city zoning ordinances.

I encourage anyone interested in this project to attend this session.

EDIT: I should have been clearer in my ask. The City DOES send out requests for bids and we have received multiple bids for the next contract to be voted on by council at the February 12th, 2026 Council Meeting. My intended question was if you are satisfied or not with the current waste provider. Sorry for the confusion!

ORIGINAL: City of Chardon Residents: thoughts on the city contracting with another trash and recycling company other than the current provider? Thank you.

In the wake of increasingly common news about salt shortages, the City of Chardon feels it is important that we share our current status. The City of Chardon has enough salt for the upcoming storm, and we remain confident there is enough to get through the winter.

The Service Department will be enhancing our sustainable salting practices to ensure we have enough for the long run. Snow removal crews will prioritize hills, intersections, and state routes first to ensure safe travel for emergency vehicles, public transportation, and commuters.

The City of Chardon appreciates the positive feedback that we have received through this difficult winter. We pride ourselves on the services we provide to the city. Please continue to take safety measures seriously as the temperatures continue to drop. Thank you for being a thoughtful and supportive part of our community.❄

Congratulations to Zach, David, Will, Noah and Austin!

Please accept our sincerest apology for the removal of the flags on the Square today. It was not intentional nor related to 9/11. We acknowledge and agree with the feedback and have placed the flags back up for Patriot Day. We are eternally grateful to all those that have served and continue to serve.

Welcome back, students! The Chardon Police Department has some important reminders to help everyone stay safe as a new school year begins.

🎒 Tomorrow is the First Day of School for Chardon Local Schools! 🏫

That means it’s time to watch out 👀 for:

🚌 School buses
🚶‍♀️ Walkers
🚴 Bikers

Set your alarm ⏰ a few minutes early and give yourself extra time — safety starts with awareness and patience on the road.

🚨 STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES – A Reminder from NHTSA:
Did you know school buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road? They're built for safety — but it's up to all drivers to do their part.

🚦 Know the Lights:
🟡 YELLOW flashing lights = Slow down. The bus is preparing to stop.
🔴 RED flashing lights + stop-arm = STOP at least 20 feet behind. Do not move until the lights stop and the bus moves again.

👀 Even if the lights aren’t flashing, always stay alert — especially during pickup/drop-off times. Kids can be unpredictable.

Let’s make this school year a safe one from day one. 💛📚

Exciting news for a local favorite! Mayor Grau and I recently joined the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce in celebrating the relocation of For The Birds Wildlife & More to their new space with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. My wife and I have been happy customers for years, consistently finding an amazing selection and receiving helpful advice from their staff. Our feathered friends in our own backyard can attest to the quality of their feed! I encourage everyone to visit their new location and support this wonderful Chardon business.
