🚨 Scam Alert 🚨
A local resident recently received a phone call from someone falsely claiming to be with the Deuel County Sheriff's Office. The caller told the resident that they were in jeopardy of investigation by the Federal Trade Commission. The caller then instructed the resident to go to the bank and transfer funds into a specific account (supposedly belonging to a Federal Agent).
⚠️ This is a scam.
Law enforcement agencies — including county, state, and federal — will never ask you to transfer money or move funds into another account.
Please stay vigilant and do not follow instructions from unsolicited calls like this. If you receive a similar call, hang up immediately and report it to your local authorities.
🙏 Also, take a moment to check in with elderly friends, family members, and neighbors. Scammers often target them, and a quick conversation could help prevent someone from losing their savings.
Stay safe and spread the word.

Attention, Sedgwick County travelers! Due to extreme high winds, we’re seeing significant hazards on I-76. At Mile Marker 168 westbound near Sedgwick, an overturned semi is blocking both lanes. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning, with northwest winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour and gusts up to 65 miles per hour. Additionally, a Red Flag Warning is in effect, raising fire danger due to low humidity and strong winds.

CDOT and Colorado State Patrol are on-site and working to clear the roadway. In the meantime, traffic is being diverted on the shoulder, so please proceed with caution.

Please be aware that these conditions are causing blowing dust and reduced visibility, making travel hazardous. If you must travel, please do so carefully and stay alert.

The Deuel County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone the old rifle/pistol range at the fairgrounds is no longer open to the public, and has not been for some time. The range may only be used by 4H shooting sports during sanctioned 4H activities. Unfortunately, this past week someone decided to use the range for their own benefit and damaged the target stands installed for 4H shooters. This person or persons also made no attempt to clean up after themselves and left trash on the range. Use of the range is not only frowned upon, it is illegal. If you or anyone you know has knowledge of the vandalism which took place, please give us a call.
