✏️ Special Education

🍎 First Year Teacher Perspective:
- The most valuable lesson I've learned this school year is the power of building genuine relationships with each student. I made it my personal goal to discover what truly interests and motivates them. I realized that before any instruction or behavior correction could be effective, I first had to earn their trust and demonstrate I had their back. Once this occurred, my students made gains in their academics, self-regulation, and behavior.

📅 Favorite Day of the School Year:
- My favorite day of the school year was taking my Multi-Categorical ELA class to the Special Olympics in April. It was amazing to see my students celebrated by the entire school with posters and confetti. My students had been practicing for their events, and I loved to see their determination and focus.

✏️Greatest gift received from the School District Five STARS Induction Program:
- The greatest gift I received from the STARS Induction program was being nominated for Induction Teacher of the Year and winning the Rising Star Award. It was an honor to be recognized for my hard work and dedication to my students. Often, special education goes unrecognized and people don't understand the complexity and emotional labor that goes into supporting students with diverse needs. To be acknowledged as one of the top induction teachers in the district felt incredibly validating. I'm grateful for Dr. Huckabee's nomination, my amazing special education teacher who supports me daily, and my students whom I love so much. They inspire me to be better every single day.
