U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lake Murray

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lake Murray Welcome to the official U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Lake Murray page. U.S. We are the uniformed volunteer component of the U.S. All comments are moderated.

We are a uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard serving the Lake Murray community and beyond. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-3 Lake Murray was chartered February 1, 1947, as the first flotilla in South Carolina. Coast Guard and our members provide value-measured assistance to the Coast Guard, boaters and to the community. The Coast Guard considers the Auxiliary its prima

ry resource for recreational boating safety outreach and prevention. In many inland portions of the country, where the majority of U.S. recreational boating occurs on lakes and rivers, the Auxiliary is the sole Coast Guard presence. We conduct safety patrols on local waterways, assist the Coast Guard with homeland security duties, teach boating safety classes, conduct courtesy vessel safety checks for the public, as well as many other activities. Please use it! In addition to wearing an inflatable PFD and not operating under the influence, the ECOS is an invaluable tool that could save your life.

The Engine Cutoff Switch (ECOS) became a federal law in 2021. This law helps to keep vessels from operating on the event the Captain falls from the helm.

The ECOS Link is attached to both the operator and vessel, allowing for the key to disengage and kill the engine if the captain falls overboard or away from the helm.
