This spring 2026, Vera Olson competed with the Ft. Scott Coop Women's Swim Team, along with 15 other girls from a total of 6 schools.

As a team, they placed 2nd at the League meet in Osawatomie. Vera placed 2nd of 56 competitors in the 50 yard freestyle, swimming her fastest time of 27.44. She also placed 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle out of 26 competitors, swimming a best time of 1:00.91. She dropped more than 6 seconds from the 100 over the course of the season. Both of the relays on which she swam placed 1st at League. She was recognized 1st Team All-League for her achievements.

While she missed swimming a qualifying time by less than half a second in the 50 yard freestyle, her time in both freestyle races placed her in the "consideration times" bracket of swimmers in 1A-5A. She was invited by KSHSAA to be prepared to swim in the 50 free at State as the second alternate. Her times ranked her as the 23rd fastest swimmer in 1A-5A in the State of KS.

State Golf Update: At the end of the State Tournament, Chanute finished 12th as a team shooting a total of 330. Senior, Kobe Patterson moved on to round shooting a 76 during round one, making him tied for 16th. During round 2, Kobe shot for 85 putting him tied for 41st. At the end of it all, Patterson came home with a 31st place finish! Great job boys! We're all so proud of you!

On Tuesday, the 12th, CHS Varsity golf compete in Pittsburg at the SEK Golf Championship! As a team, they finished in 4th place shooting a total of 357. Here are your awards/results:

Kobe Patterson- 5th place shooting an 83 (All-SEK pick)

Back in April, Junior Jalen Duncan purchased Mr. Wood and Mr. Tarkelly in our annual Ecology Day Auction. For his purchase, the two teachers prepared a VERY large feast of “Exotic Meats” for Jalen.

In this meal, they prepared 2 baked trout, cream cheese hors d’oeuvres topped with bits of trout, squirrel and sausage “pastalaya”, venison sloppy joes on pretzel buns, oven baked rabbit coated in teriyaki sauce, pan-seared cow tongue, broiled ox tail, and some homemade French fries to round it off.
