Members of your Chandlerville Fire Department traveled to the Cincinnati Fire Protection District over the weekend to participate in the hands-on skills session of the Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue (CPVR) course. 🚒

This skills weekend marks the completion of the 40-hour course, where students have built the knowledge and hands-on techniques needed for safe and effective passenger vehicle extrication. From stabilization to tool operations and patient access, this training brings it all together in real-world scenarios.

With the course now complete, these firefighters are prepared to move forward and test for their State Certification in Auto Extrication. 🎉

May 4 was chosen as the date to celebate International Firefighter' Day as it is also the Feast Day of St Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters.

A Roman officer known for his courage and leadership, St Florian is remembered for his role in organising firefighting brigades and for standing firm in the face of danger.

His legacy lives on in firefighters around the world today.

On this day, we honour not only tradition—but the enduring spirit of service and protection. We celebrate and thank brave firefighters around the world who risk their lives to protect our communities. Your courage, commitment, and dedication never go unnoticed. Today was the first day of hands-on skills for the spring EMR class.

Today they practiced lifting and moving patients, patient assessments, and vital signs.

This class is one of our biggest, with 17 students from 7 different departments, including: Chandlerville, Bath Volunteer Fire Department, Athens Fire Department, White Hall, Tallula, and Cincinnati Fire Protection District.

We are looking forward to day two tomorrow, covering airway management and resuscitation. Here are some pictures from today!

At 726 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Littleton to 6 miles northeast of Beverly, moving east at 65 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Severe thunderstorms will be near... Rushville, Vermont, and Littleton around 730 PM CDT. Astoria around 735 PM CDT. Beardstown, Meredosia, and Browning around 740 PM CDT. Bluff Springs, Arenzville, and Bath around 745 PM CDT.

Other locations in the path of these severe thunderstorms include Havana, Virginia and Chandlerville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. These storms may cause serious injury and significant property damage.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for central and west central Illinois.
