Celebrating freedom, history, and identity 🇵🇭

Today, we join Filipinos around the world in commemorating Philippine Independence Day.

June 12 marks the day the Philippines declared its independence in 1898 - a defining moment that continues to inspire generations through the values of courage, resilience, patriotism, and unity. From the three stars and eight rays of the Philippine flag to the stories of those who fought for freedom, each symbol serves as a reminder of our nation’s rich history and the sacrifices made by those who came before us.

As we honor our past, we also celebrate the strength, achievements, and contributions of Filipinos around the world who continue to carry forward the ideals of freedom, service, and community. May we never forget the journey that brought us here, and may we continue to build a future worthy of the generations who paved the way.

A Filipino favorite, made simple 🍌🇵🇭

This week on Culture Corner, Honorary Consul Jenny Ho-Vijungco and are making Turon, one of the Philippines’ most beloved desserts and merienda snacks.

Traditionally made with saba bananas, brown sugar, and jackfruit wrapped in a crispy golden shell, turon has become a staple in Filipino households because it’s simple, comforting, and always brings people together. Whether enjoyed from a neighborhood street vendor or made at home with family, it’s a treat that many Filipinos grew up loving.

Through Culture Corner, we hope to show that no matter where you are in your cooking journey, food can be a meaningful way to stay connected to our culture, traditions, and heritage.

Let us know if you’ll be trying this recipe at home. Kain na tayo ✨
