Happy June Solstice!

Today marks the June Solstice, the moment when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted most directly toward the sun. It is the longest day and shortest night of the year, bringing the most daylight hours we'll experience all year.

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have recognized the solstice as an important seasonal milestone. It marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and has been celebrated through festivals, gatherings, and traditions that honor the sun, nature, and the changing seasons.

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, teachers, coaches, and father figures who help guide, support and inspire those around them.

Fatherhood comes in many forms. Whether through words of encouragement, lessons learned, time shared, or simply being there when it matters most, these individuals help shape lives and strengthen our communities.

On Father's Day, we recognize and appreciate all those who lead with care, wisdom, patience, and love.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, honors perseverance, and reflects on an important chapter in our nation's history.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, received news of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. This moment marked a significant milestone in the journey toward liberty and justice in the United States.

As an official City of Chandler holiday, Juneteenth provides an opportunity to learn, reflect, and celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation's history.

Culture Music in the Park was such a great night of coming together with our community to celebrate Freedom Week and Juneteenth.

We had an amazing turnout, and it meant so much to see everyone show up and enjoy the evening together. There was so much positive energy in the air, and we loved seeing our community come together to celebrate in the heart of our city.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening so special.

Tomorrow is the annual Miss Juneteenth Arizona Scholarship Pageant at the Chandler Center for the Arts!

The Miss Juneteenth Arizona Pageant is a celebration of freedom, heritage, excellence, and the next generation of leaders. It is a platform, that encourages young women to embrace their purpose, honor their history and step boldly into the future.

Tickets are still available to celebrate culture, crown excellence and recognize the remarkable young women who are making a difference in their community.

Through the YouthSpark Education Grant Program, the City of Chandler Connection & Impact Division helped support educational opportunities, youth programs, and community initiatives serving Chandler youth ages 5–18.

During Fiscal Year 2025/26:
29 organizations received funding
10,191 students were served
More than $23,135 was invested back into our community

These grants help create meaningful learning experiences, strengthen community connections and provide opportunities for young people to thrive.
