Hey Champlin!

Good news for the start of the school year! 🚗

109th Avenue at Highway 169 has reopened, with two lanes of traffic available ahead of the first day of school on September 8.

Construction will continue as Phase 2 of the 109th Avenue Reconstruction Project moves forward, but this milestone will help improve traffic flow for everyone. Thank you for your patience throughout the closure and construction process.

Here's to smoother commutes and a great first day back for Champlin students, families, teachers, and staff. We wish everyone a safe and successful school year! 🚌

I hope everyone has a safe and successful year filled with new friendships, new educational goals, and new adventures.

A special shout out to our hardworking teachers and support staff who continue to show up every day with patience, passion, and dedication.

They are the unsung heroes that make a difference in the lives of their students. 💜

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸✊🏼

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.

I also want to touch upon the importance of this day and to pay homage to the railway workers in Pullman, Illinois in 1894 who put their bodies on the line to organize, form a labor union, and fought for regulations and workplace protections.

This movement sparked additional railroad workers’ strikes across the country that led to the official federal recognition of Labor Day, which was signed into law by President Cleveland.

These same protections are those many industries— especially in the public sector such as education, police, fire, nursing, construction, electricians, and government are able to have today, which is an integral facet of the middle class.

However, while we have come a long way, we still have to continue the fight against corporations and private sector companies that discriminate against workers, refuse to pay livable wages, and attempt to union bust in order to stop folks from having rights and closing the income gap.

Labor Day serves as a proud reminder of what can be accomplished if we band together for the collective good.

🎧📱 4 Days to a Safer School Year: Heads Up, Phones Down

We're down to 4 days until the first day of school! 🎒

For today's 7 Days to a Safer School Year reminder, we're asking students to do something pretty simple: heads up, phones down 👀📵

Walking or biking to school may be part of the daily routine, but phones, earbuds and other distractions can make it easy to miss what's happening around you.

Before Tuesday morning, parents please take a minute to remind your walkers and riders:

👀 Look up before crossing. Stop, look both ways, and make sure drivers see you before stepping into the street.

📱 Put the phone away at intersections. That text, video, or notification can wait until you're safely across.

🎧 Turn down the volume. If you're wearing headphones or earbuds, make sure you can still hear traffic, horns, sirens, and what's happening around you.

🚸 Use crosswalks and follow traffic signals. Cross where drivers expect to see you.

🚲 Stay alert on your bike, too. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands ready to react.

And drivers, this reminder goes both ways - your phone can wait, too 📵 With students heading back to school, there will be more kids walking and biking throughout our community.

Whether you're behind the wheel, on two wheels or on two feet: pay attention to what's around you. 💙

♻️ ⛪️ ATTN: If you have unwanted plastic grocery bags you can drop them off at the Champlin United Methodist Church on 9/12 between 9am and noon. They will be used as padding for sleeping mats to help unhoused folks.
