This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to support The Refugee Center in supporting our local immigrant and refugee community.

What began as an unprecedented year for refugee resettlement was cut short on January 20th, when the Trump Administration halted all refugee arrivals. In spite of this, our Refugee Resettlement Team continues to provide services for those who arrived prior to January 20th, as well as for the few cases that traveled outside of the resettlement process.

Our multilingual Client Services Team offers comprehensive case management services to all foreign-born clients. In the past 12 months, The Refugee Center has served over 3,500 unduplicated clients in East Central Illinois. Services include assistance with public benefit and basic immigration applications, interpretations, document translations and client accompaniment to essential appointments.

Many of our clients, of all statuses, are fearful of ICE and family separation. It will take a monumental effort to overcome these obstacles. With your support we will continue to stand firm and provide essential services for our immigrant neighbors.

Today marks the 45th anniversary of The Refugee Center! TRC was founded in 1980 by Vietnamese refugees to provide commonly needed services to other newly arrived refugees, and to help them acclimatize to American culture. In its 45 years of service to our community, The Refugee Center has expanded its scope to assist all immigrants, political asylees, and refugees, regardless of country of origin.

Throughout the years, community support has remained critical for our work. You can be a part of building a welcoming community here in Champaign-Urbana by donating at therefugeecenter-cu.org/donate.
