Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Champaign Urbana Public Health District - Health prevention, education, collaboration, and regulation

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) has worked since 1937 to prevent disease and promote public health. In 1996, the Champaign County Public Health Department was formed by a referendum of county voters bringing many of the same public health services to Champaign County residents living outside Champaign-Urbana. Together, these agencies provide a host of vital services to all Cham

paign-Urbana residents, as well as selected services to Champaign County residents at large. Public Health services include, but are not limited to, environmental health inspections and permits; disease tracking, reporting, and investigation; HIV counseling and testing, prevention, and management; sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment; dental services for children; education and health promotion; preventive services and case management for women; immunizations; and an array of other services to pregnant women, children, teenagers, and adults of all ages.

🌸💕THANK YOU to everyone in our community who generously contributed to our Period Product Closet! Together, we collected 12,602 individual period products to help combat period poverty right here at home.

Did you know that 1 in 4 women in the U.S. struggle to afford period products? Access to something as basic as pads and tampons has a huge impact. It helps people stay healthy and keeps them in and school and work when they need to be there most.

Your donations make a genuine difference in the lives of our neighbors, and we are so grateful for this community's continued support of the Period Product Closet.

If you're interested in donating, you can donate straight from our Amazon wish list all year round: https://a.co/bWa9ddj

Champaign-Urbana Public Health District to Begin Distribution of Padagis® Naloxone Nasal Spray

New generic option keeps naloxone free and available to county residents.

CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District’s (CUPHD) Teen and Adult Services (TAS) Division Overdose Prevention Program is now providing Padagis® Naloxone Nasal Spray free to county residents.

The State of Illinois recently transitioned from the brand name NARCAN® to generic Padagis®, which still contains the same 4mg dose of naloxone and works in the body in the same way to treat opioid overdoses. The change to a lower-cost generic naloxone spray means funding can be stretched further, increasing access to this life-saving medication.

In 2024 and 2025 combined, CUPHD distributed more than 28,000 naloxone kits to community members. According to CUPHD's Fatal Drug Overdose Data Dashboard, Champaign County saw opioid-related deaths drop 67.5% from 2023 to 2024. While 2025 saw an uptick, opioid-related deaths remained lower than 2023 levels by 55%.

"We're excited to offer this generic version of Narcan®! Naloxone has worked so well to reduce overdose deaths in our community and now this Padagis® version will allow us to continue our work in the opioid crisis,” says Harm Reduction Program Coordinator Joe Trotter.

Kits are free and can be picked up at the TAS check-in window located in the CUPHD lobby at 201 W. Kenyon Rd., Champaign. Delivery is also available by calling 217-531-5370 or emailing Joe Trotter at [email protected].
