A Champaign man is in custody for his alleged role in an August 2026 shooting incident. Champaign Police responded on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 2:32 p.m., after multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of Carver Drive. Upon arrival, responding officers from the Champaign and Urbana Police Departments located a 22-year-old male victim suffering from a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was treated at the scene by police, fire, and EMS personnel before being transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim continues to recover from his injuries.

The initial investigation indicates that the victim was involved in an altercation at the scene when 20-year-old Davondrae Manus fired a weapon and the victim was struck. Following the shooting, Manus fled the scene on foot. He was arrested on the morning of October 21, 2026, during the ex*****on of a court-ordered search warrant in the 1600 block of Lock Raven Road. Manus now faces charges including Aggravated Battery with a Fi***rm.

Even with an arrest, the investigation remains ongoing. Champaign Police ask that anyone who has additional information please call 217-351-4545. Arrangements can be made for information to be shared privately. Reduce the risk for property theft by remembering to Lock it. Hide it. Keep it!

The Champaign Police Department encourages residents to take a few important steps to ensure that purchases, gifts, and personal belongings don’t get swept away in a crime of opportunity.
-When possible, park in well-lit parking spaces in areas closer to main entrances.
-Secure bags and valuables in your vehicle's trunk when shopping at multiple stores.
-Always, always keep your vehicle doors locked.

Ordering online? Safeguard your deliveries!
-Have a plan to ensure your deliveries are not sitting outside for too long.
-Consider the use of a video doorbell or camera for added security.
-Consider having packages delivered to your workplace or a neighbor who is home during the day.

Whether you’re out shopping or comfortable at home, you can always take simple steps to reduce your risk of theft.

Champaign Police are investigating a shooting incident that injured one man on the evening of October 13, 2026. Officers quickly located a scene with evidence of gunfire and an adult male victim in the 1500 block of Hedge Road with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Police personnel immediately rendered medical aid on-scene with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. The victim was reported to be in stable condition.

Planning a public event before it gets too cold? Thinking ahead for 2027? Don’t forget to submit your applications in advance! As a reminder:

- Neighborhood block events, party registrations and outdoor music requests must submit a special event application a minimum of ten (10) days prior to the event.
- Applications for private parties with amplified sound must be submitted five (5) days prior to the event.
- All other permit requests must be submitted at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the event.

By submitting this paperwork, you help the City of Champaign to provide information to the community about street closures and to allocate resources for the safety of your attendees, including barricades for street closures.
