🐾 Today, I want to give a special tail wag to SSD Fahrenheit as he begins his well-earned retirement after 10 years of service with the York County Department of Probation Services – Juvenile Office. ❤️

For a decade, Fahrenheit has been much more than a courthouse facility dog. He has been a source of comfort during difficult times, a calming presence during stressful moments, and a loyal companion to countless staff members, youth, families, and community members.

Dogs like Fahrenheit help remind people that compassion and kindness have a place in the justice system. Through every visit, every interaction, and every wag of his tail, he made a difference in the lives of those around him.

Thank you, Fahrenheit, for paving the way for facility dogs like me and for showing what can happen when a little love, support, and four paws come together in service to others.

Enjoy your retirement, my friend. You've earned every nap, every treat, and every belly rub that comes your way. 🦴☀️

Congratulations on an incredible career and a lasting legacy. ❤️🐾

Earlier today, the Franklin County Commissioners joined Judge Jeremiah Zook, District Attorney Ian Brink and staff from the county’s adult probation department, court administration and Franklin/Fulton Drug & Alcohol in recognizing May as Treatment Court Month in Franklin County.

Franklin County is served by the Good Wolf Treatment Court, which began in April 2017 in response to the opioid epidemic. Designed for individuals whose involvement in the justice system is rooted in substance use disorders, the program offers defendants a supportive yet rigorous and challenging evidence-based alternative to incarceration, promoting sobriety, recovery, honesty and accountability.

To date, 142 participants have entered Franklin County’s Good Wolf Treatment Court program; 48 have reached graduation, a testament to the program’s strict requirements as well as the challenges individuals face in recovery.

Today, members of the Franklin County Adult Probation Department wore green in support of Mental Health Awareness. 💚

Every day, we work with individuals facing challenges that are often unseen, including mental health struggles, trauma, addiction, and emotional hardship. Wearing green is a reminder that mental health matters, support matters, and no one should feel alone in their journey.

We are proud to stand together in promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging conversations surrounding mental health within our community and workplace.

Together, we can continue building a system focused not only on accountability, but also on hope, healing, and recovery.

Today, Officer Dudley had the opportunity to meet some of the students from Scotland Elementary School as they learned about different careers and the education, training, and skills needed to achieve them.
Dudley enjoyed spending time with the students while helping introduce them to careers in the courts, Probation and public service.
He cuddled with students the entire visit as the students asked questions, shared smiles, and learned more about the important work being done in our community. 🐾💕🎉👮

Hey Buster,

I heard the news, and my tail slowed a little when I did.

You did something really special. You weren’t just a good boy, you were the first of your kind, showing everyone what dogs like us could do. Because of you, so many of us get to walk into courtrooms, sit beside people on hard days, and remind them they’re not alone. That’s a big deal.

I spend my days trying to do what you did so naturally—bring a little calm, a little comfort, maybe even a smile when it’s needed most. And I know I’m not the only one. There are a lot of us out here now, all following the path you helped create.

I heard you worked for 12 whole years… that’s a lot of head pats, a lot of quiet moments, and a whole lot of lives changed. And then you got to kick back and enjoy retirement like you deserved. That sounds just about perfect.

Make sure you find the best sunny spot up there. I’m guessing there are endless treats and squeaky toys too.

We’ve got it from here, Buster. I’ll keep doing the work, one wag at a time.

Rest easy, my friend.

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Buster, York County’s beloved treatment court dog, has crossed the rainbow bridge at 14 1/2 years old. Buster passed peacefully yesterday with his handler, Holly Wise, and her husband by his side.

Buster made history in 2013 as the nation’s first treatment court facility dog. For 12 years, he brought comfort, calm, and hope to individuals taking brave steps toward recovery in our Drug, DUI, Mental Health, and Veterans’ Treatment Courts. His work inspired a statewide movement, leading to courthouse facility dogs across Pennsylvania—including three now serving here in York County.

Buster retired in August 2025 and enjoyed a loving, well‑earned retirement with the Wise family. His gentle spirit touched thousands throughout his life, both in and far beyond the courthouse.

We are deeply grateful to Holly for her dedication and partnership, and to everyone who supported Buster’s work over the years.

Rest easy, sweet Buster. Your legacy lives on.

Last Friday, Officer Dudley had the opportunity to attend Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, where first responders come together to learn how to better support individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Dudley did what he does best, bringing a calming presence to the room, offering comfort during difficult conversations, and reminding everyone of the importance of compassion in this work. Whether it was sitting quietly beside participants or greeting attendees with a wagging tail, he made a lasting impact.

Trainings like CIT are so important, and we're proud that Dudley can play even a small role in supporting the professionals who show up every day to help others through challenging situations.
