PARISH PRESIDENT LOUIS POMES SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER WAIVING CERTAIN PARISH FEES FOR TORNADO RECOVERY

CHALMETTE, LA – St. Bernard Parish President Louis Pomes signed an Executive Order at 12:41 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, waiving certain parish permit and inspection fees associated with repairs resulting from the EF-0 tornado that impacted portions of Arabi on June 19, 2026.

The Executive Order is intended to help residents and property owners affected by the tornado begin repairs and recovery efforts as quickly as possible by eliminating parish-level fees related to the repair, restoration, reconstruction, or replacement of damaged property within the impacted areas.

“Many families are now focused on repairing damage and getting their homes and properties back to normal,” said Parish President Louis Pomes. “This Executive Order is one small way we can help ease that burden and support our residents as they recover.”

While fees covered under the Executive Order will be waived, all applicable permitting, inspection, building code, zoning, and safety requirements remain in effect to ensure repairs are completed safely and properly.

The fee waiver applies to damages resulting from the June 19, 2026 tornado event and will remain in effect through December 31, 2026, unless rescinded earlier by subsequent Executive Order.

🌪️ St. Bernard Parish Storm Update 🌪️

Our community experienced a tornado touchdown today, leaving damage in St. Bernard Parish. We are grateful that crews have been working tirelessly to respond and begin recovery efforts.

At this time:

⚡ Approximately 2,200 homes remain without power. Entergy is working to restore power to affected customers.

🏠 Five homes sustained severe roof damage, while additional homes experienced missing shingles, downed trees, damaged fences, and other storm-related impacts.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to The Home Depot for stepping up and delivering much-needed supplies to assist residents whose homes were damaged by the storms. Your generosity is making a difference when it's needed most.

A special thank you also goes to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office for keeping damaged roadways closed and helping ensure the safety of residents while Entergy crews work to restore power.

We are incredibly grateful to our St. Bernard Fire Department, Entergy lineworkers, public works crews, emergency personnel, and all first responders who have been working to respond to emergencies, clear hazards, and help our community recover.

Thank you, St. Bernard, for looking out for one another. We'll continue to share updates as more information becomes available. 💙

Per the Sheriff’s office, due to storm-related hazards, Rowley Boulevard and Norton Avenue have been closed to traffic between Judge Perez Drive and St. Bernard Highway, including all cross streets in that area.

Intersections with non-functioning traffic signals should be treated as four-way stops.

🚨UPDATE: All streets have been reopened.

🚔🌪️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a small tornado that has passed through portions of Arabi.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.

Residents in the area are encouraged to use caution and watch for downed power lines, fallen trees, debris in roadways, traffic lights that may be out, and other storm-related hazards. If you encounter downed power lines, stay away and report them immediately to Entergy.

⚠️Due to storm-related hazards, Rowley Boulevard and Norton Avenue have been closed to traffic between Judge Perez Drive and St. Bernard Highway, including all cross streets in that area.

Motorists are reminded that intersections with non-functioning traffic signals should be treated as four-way stops.

Deputies are assessing conditions and will continue to monitor the affected area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

🦉 The votes are in... meet Warner & Mitchell! 🦉

After so many great name suggestions from our community, the results are official! The little owl has been named Warner, and the bigger sibling is now Mitchell. Thank you to everyone who joined the fun and helped us name our newest (and fluffiest) Fire Station 12 residents!

While we’d love to get back to work on the station renovations, these little ones are protected under federal law. That means we have to let them grow up and leave the nest on their own before construction can safely resume.

For now, we’re happy to share their journey with all of you. Thanks for following along as Warner and Mitchell continue to grow. We can’t wait to see them spread their wings! 🦉❤️
