SBSO ARRESTS NEW ORLEANS MAN IN THEFT OF $45,000 BOBCAT

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriffโ€™s Office arrested a New Orleans man in connection with the theft of a construction Bobcat valued at approximately $45,000, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

David Leonard, 50, of the 7700 block of Mercier Street in New Orleans, was booked with theft over $25,000.

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026 at approximately 9:20 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a stolen 2021 Bobcat MT-100 in the 3700 block of Paris Road in Chalmette.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau obtained video surveillance of the suspect and identified the vehicle involved as a 1999 Ford F-150.

Investigators traced the vehicle to Leonard and, with assistance from the New Orleans Police Department, located him and the truck at his residence in eastern New Orleans.

During questioning, Leonard admitted to stealing the Bobcat and directed detectives to the 5600 block of Old Gentilly Road in New Orleans, where it had been concealed.

The Bobcat was recovered by detectives in less than 12 hours, and Leonard was transported to St. Bernard Parish, where he was booked accordingly.

Anyone with information involving this incident is asked to call the Sheriffโ€™s Office at (504) 271-2501, the Criminal Investigations Bureauโ€™s tip hotline at (504) 271-TIPS or 8477, or Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward through Crimestoppers.
