Join the call to tend to your community “In the Wake of Brandywine!” How did civilians and militia men live before the call to battle, and how did their lives fair after the American defeat at Brandywine? This brand-new event will take you through colonial life in the Brandywine Valley.

Camp cooking
Weapon tent and colonial scout – firing and weapon maintenance
Quaker activities
Colonial Games with prizes:
Graces, Hoops, Children drill, Shut the Box, Put and Take.

Militia is called to order and will volley fire at 11:45, 12:45 and 1:45.

Various speakers will highlight the role of militia, battle, and its aftermath to be held between 11AM-1:30PM. TBA

249 years ago; September 11, 1777 – The Battle of Brandywine
Today is the anniversary of the largest single-day land battle of the American Revolution, fought right here in Chadds Ford. Over 26,000 troops clashed in a brutal 11-hour engagement as General George Washington attempted to block the British advance on Philadelphia. Though outflanked and forced to retreat, the Continental Army’s resilience and unity endured. This battle tested the strength and fortitude of the young Continental Army, but it did not discourage their fight for freedom.

Join us as we honor the men who stood their ground, fought for freedom, and helped shape the future of a nation.
📍 Ceremony begins 6 pm at Brandywine Battlefield Park.
Let us remember their sacrifice — and carry forward the spirit of independence they defended.

Join us next Friday, September 11, at 6 p.m. as we commemorate the 249th anniversary of the Battle of Brandywine here at Brandywine Battlefield Park. This gathering brings our community together on the ground where the battle took place to reflect and honor those who fought here. The ceremony will feature remarks from special guests, a moment of silence, the raising and lowering of the colors, and additional program elements. Your presence supports the ongoing preservation and interpretation of this historic site.

Don’t miss fall Homeschool Days! It’s the perfect way to kick off the school year at Brandywine Battlefield Park. Families, co-ops, and small learning groups can spend the day exploring history through hands-on stations that keep everyone moving and curious.

The day’s flow depends on turnout. Smaller groups can wander and visit stations however they like. Larger groups will rotate together so everyone gets time at each stop. Either way, it stays simple and fun.

The next dates are September 16th and October 21st. To join the next session, fill out the registration form below. Park staff will follow up to confirm your spot and share details as the date gets closer.

We had SUCH a blast at Voices of Brandywine at the beginning of this month!

Guests saw two different shows put on by the .

"Across the Line" featured Jamison Foreman as General George Washington, Tom Geiger as Captain Enoch Anderson, and Sam Nagel as Hessian Captain Johann Ewald. This show demonstrated how men on either side of the battle navigated the tough decisions needed to perform on the battlefield.

"The Cost of Brandywine" featured Tom Geiger Joseph Townsend, Giavanna Mariano as Mary "Polly" Frazer, Sam Nagel as Dr. Benjamin Rush. This performance reiterated the cost that local civilians were forced to pay during and after the Battle of Brandywine. Not only were they left to rebuild their homes and communities, but to build a new nation.

victories to give Americans confidence they will prevail.
One local citizen who had fought alongside
Washington’s troops has changed sides, supporting the
British, plundering local farms and bringing his wrath
upon anyone who supports the Patriot cause. Large
and muscular, he has become a highwayman, brutally
robbing people at gunpoint wherever he finds them
around southern Chester County. Known as ‘Captain
Fitch’ to some, James Fitzpatrick’s exploits terrorized
the area and his actions became legendary, described
in a fascinating new book “Sandy Flash and the Trail of
History."

Tickets are required and will be available at the entrance. Please note that parking is first-come, first-served. And that some walking will be required.

See actors bring to life the Battle of Brandywine like never before. Meet Phillis Wheatley, Anthony Wayne, and soldiers from both the Chester County Militia and the 1st Continental Regiment. Houses are available as a open house with docents.
