Prohibited items! This full bottle of drain opener shut down a route for about an hour this morning. Frustrating, but this is probably best case scenario after a bottle of acid is torn open inside a garbage truck. The sulfuric acid reacted with other items, in particular aluminum, and creates dangerous vapors, and can start fires inside the garbage load. Worst case scenario can be badly injured personnel, and total loss of the truck due to fire. All of these risks cause waste industry insurance to be high and thus our costs. Customers: please do better. Household hazardous waste disposal locations in the comments.

Good morning, Nebraska. Most roadways in the eastern half of the state are snow/ice covered.

I-80 remains CLOSED between Grand Island and Greenwood (mm 312 to mm 417) because of impassable conditions.

The winds are still blowing snow and can quickly reduce visibility.

Due to current white-out conditions, Nebraska Department of Roads snowplows are pulling their plows off the highways.

Ceresco Fire & Rescue held our annual banquet and awards ceremony this weekend. We want to send out a huge thank you to everyone that helped make it a success! The Elm in Ceresco for donating the venue, Super C for donating beverages, the Red Rooster for catering & the Ceresco Village Board and Rural Boards for their continuous support, we could not do what we do without you! We had a record number of calls in 2024 and are proud of the dedication of our 7 new members! 2024 is also burned in our hearts forever, with the tragic loss of one of our own. We were honored this weekend by his family presenting two of our members with the first ever “Ross Bartlett Outstanding Member of the Year Award”. We will never forget and we will continue our commitment to learning, growing and giving our best to help keep Ceresco safe.
