🌱 Stewardship Week 2026: Soil – Where It All Begins 🌱

From the ground beneath our feet to the food on our tables, everything starts with soil! Healthy soils support clean water, productive farms, resilient habitats, and thriving communities. Healthy soil also acts as a natural filter—helping clean and store water as it moves through the landscape.

This Stewardship Week (April 26 – May 3), we’re joining the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) in celebrating the vital role soil plays in our everyday lives. This year’s theme—“Soil: Where It All Begins”—highlights how soil is the foundation of conservation and the starting point for nearly every natural system.

💡 Whether you’re a farmer, gardener, landowner, or simply someone who enjoys the outdoors, there are ways you can help protect and improve soil health:
• Plant native vegetation or cover crops
• Reduce soil disturbance
• Keep topsoil covered year-round
• Support best management practices that reduce erosion and runoff

🌎 Want to learn more or get involved? NACD offers excellent free resources, activities, and educational materials you can explore and share:

Soil may be out of sight—but it should never be out of mind. Let’s celebrate and care for the resource that supports it all!
