Brenda Gonzalez Martinez, 33, of Columbia, MD

On May 29th, 2026, at approximately 12:16AM, Sgt. Davidson was on routine patrol when a BOLO was broadcasted for a possibly impaired driver crossing EB on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Dispatch advised the caller, an off-duty police officer, observed the vehicle striking the side of the bridge multiple times and failing to maintain its lane.

Sgt. Davidson was in the area and began watching bridge traffic. He observed a large break in traffic coming off the bridge and headlights backed up on the bridge. As traffic came closer, he was able to see an unmarked police vehicle with some lights activated dragging traffic.

In front of it was a vehicle matching the BOLO description driving at a low rate of speed and failing to maintain its lane. Sgt. Davidson initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Brenda Gonzalez Martinez, as well as a child passenger.

Sgt. Davidson observed several indicators of impairment as well as numerous damages to the side of the vehicle. He requested Gonzalez Martinez submit to SFSTs, which she refused. Based on observations made by deputies she was then placed under arrest. The child was later released to a sober adult.

On Friday our team was proud to be part of the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Maryland. πŸ’™πŸ”₯

We were joined by an awesome group of students from Kent Island High School and our allied agency partners from Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack, Centreville Police Department, Chestertown Police Department, Denton Police Department, Queen Anne's County State's Attorney's Office, Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, and FOP Lodge 108.

Together, we carried the Flame of Hope, showing our collective support for inclusion and Special Olympics athletes.

We have to give shoutouts to the amazing athletes that inspire us everyday, the people who took time out of their days for this awesome event, and to the FOP Lodge for covering the cost of each KIHS student and staff member to participate.
