Queen Anne’s County came together today in Centreville to celebrate the life and lasting legacy of Jim Roy, a cherished community member and dedicated volunteer with the Drug Free Coalition.

County Commissioners Jim Moran and Chris Corchiarino joined Sheriff Gary Hofmann and Delegate Steve Arentz for the unveiling of a new memorial plaque at the Historic Courthouse honoring Jim, who passed away last year. Warren Wright, leader of the Drug Free Coalition, served as master of ceremonies for the dedication.

The plaque was unveiled by Jim’s wife, Lynn Roy, during today’s Queen Anne’s County Goes Purple kickoff event. Featuring a tree with deep roots, the plaque reflects the impact Jim made through his generosity, service and commitment to his community:

“A generous heart.
A legacy of growth and giving.
Deep roots. Lasting impact.”

Queen Anne’s County Goes Purple has been raising awareness about substance use disorder and addiction, promoting prevention and connecting the community with resources since 2018.

Jim’s generosity planted seeds throughout our community that will continue to grow, and his dedication to helping others will remain an important part of the Queen Anne’s County Goes Purple legacy.
