10th Annual Cherokee County Mock Trials

Cherokee County Mock Trials 2026 was a tremendous success. We had 56 students participating! Each year we host a group of 5th and 6th grade students representing all five schools in the county. The students began preparing in January, and today we conducted four trials.

The young men and women did an outstanding job. Their teacher, Mrs. Sally Campbell, consistently ensures they are well prepared and ready to perform at a high level.

We were also grateful for the support of local attorney Clint Eubanks, District Attorney Summer Summerford and Deputy District Attorney Brady Burns who volunteered their entire day to assist in the courtroom and help make the experience meaningful for the students.

It was a great day, and we look forward to welcoming this program back again next year.

Great group from Cedar Bluff! Thanks for visiting us!

Our 7th grade classes visited the new Cherokee County Courthouse today to watch cases with Judge Taylor and Judge Mobley. Circuit Clerk Amos and DA Summerford spent time talking to the students about the branches of government and how the process works and the role each one takes on during the process of getting to court. Students were able to tour the new courthouse and were the first group to be able to have our picture taken inside the new building.
We appreciate our government officials for taking time with our students!

Congratulations to newest DeKalb County District Judge Jeff McCurdy. It was an honor to be at his investiture. I even got to catch up with some old friends while there. In addition to the local delegation, our colleagues Judge Graham and Judge Benson of Jackson County were in attendance as was the Speaker of the House, Nathaniel Ledbetter.

Yesterday it was my privilege to administer the oath of office to several recently re-elected public servants. I am honored to count these individuals as colleagues but more importantly they are all my friends. I know they will continue to serve our citizens well.

The young men and young ladies did a fantastic job! Their teacher, Mrs. Sally Campbell, always has them well prepared. We had several local attorneys and members of the DAs office volunteer to assist them in the courtroom. Can’t wait to see them again next year!

2023 Mock Trial Day! We had a great time with 5th and 6th grade students representing every school in the county today. They were well prepared and did a fantastic job in each role. Thanks to all who help make this happen each year!
