*******NEWS PRESS RELEASE FROM MARION COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT**********

Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon and Marion County Sheriff Kevin W. Cripps wish to keep our community as well as our First Responders informed and safe. Marion County has now experienced the a XYLAZINE death in Marion County.

We feel it is important to get the word out to other citizens in Marion County who may use fentanyl, he**in or other illegal drugs. XYLAZINE is commonly mixed with the prior mentioned drugs and commonly goes by the nickname of "tranq", "tranq dope", or the "zombie drug". XYLAZINE is a drug used for sedation, anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and analgesia in animals such as horses, cattle and other not-human mammals. XYLAZINE does NOT respond to Naloxone, the miracle drug known as NAR-CAN.

Naloxone should still be used due to this drug commonly being mixed with other Opioid drugs such as he**in and fentanyl.

Overuse of the drug can lead to rotting skin ulcerations and ultimately limb amputations if untreated, hence its horrifying nickname "zombie drug".

Please help us get this information out to the public throughout Marion and surrounding Counties

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hermann, Missouri Police Department and the friends and family of this fallen officer. We also pray for a full recovery for the other officer who was shot.

The Wamac Police Department and other agencies in the area have received multiple reports of a new, highly addictive substance circulating in and around Wamac as well as nationally! This substance has common street names like "Thin Mints," "Caramel DeLites," "Peanut Butter Patties," and "Lemonades." Do not let these innocent names fool you. 🥸

These highly addictive substances are being distributed into our communities by groups of extremely persuasive, fearless, and charming young women who will lure you in with their good-cause story and then proceed to get you absolutely hooked on their product. Many users have reported starting off "with just one box", but quickly find themselves resorting to purchasing multiple boxes a day to get their fix. Even scarier, some users even start hiding their stash in the freezer! 😱

We want our community to know that we are here for you. We have set up a drop-off location for these "Girl Scout Cookies" at the Wamac Police Department, where our officers can dispose of them safely! 😎

Twas the night before school and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The backpacks were hung by the backdoor with care
In hopes that their wearers would soon be there
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of the first day danced in their heads.
Mom in her jammies and I in my chair
Had turned on the tv to listen and stare.
When over on the couch there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my chair and asked mom “what’s the matter”
Away to the back door, she flew in a flash
Tore off her house shoes and grabbed some spare cash
The keys were a jingling as she walked out the door
Gave a wave goodbye and put the pedal to the floor
When she reached ol’ Walmart with its lights a blaze
She knew what she needed was in this sweet maze
She knew in that moment the supplies would be rare
More rare than the steak they had for the celebratory fare
And with the blue cart a tumbling in the aisles so tall
She’d fill it with sweet things for her kiddos so small
On pencils, on markers, in red, black, and blue
On erasers, on glue sticks, a box of snacks too
To the checkout then home with a few plastic sacks
Now all of these things will fill their little packs.
No matter what grade or school the kids might be starting, let’s start it off right by doing the following:
1. Slow down in school zones.
2. Watch out for increased foot traffic.
3. Put DOWN your cell phone.
4. Allow for extra time in the morning due to more cars, bicycles, and pedestrians.

APRIL 20: Sorry to be so blunt but w**d be lying if we said we didn't know what today is. Please doobie careful with your decisions in how you celebrate the day. Hash out a sober driver and make sure they don't go blazin' over the speed limit. We wouldn't want them to hit a pot-hole and go smokin' off the road and mess up the grass in front of Mary Jane's house. You don't want our papers.
