🚨 Information Release 🚨
On Saturday, July 4, at 11:07 p.m., the Cicero Fire Department, along with pre-planned mutual aid companies, were dispatched by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported garage fire extending into a residence in the 5900 block of Sneller Road.
As C-1, C-3, and C-4 immediately went enroute, several additional 911 calls were received reporting that both the garage and residence were on fire, with a possible occupant still inside.
At 11:10 p.m., C-3 arrived on scene and reported a one-story ranch home with an attached garage heavily involved, with fire extending into the residence. A Signal 99 (Working Fire) was immediately transmitted.
Recognizing the rural nature of the area and the absence of nearby fire hydrants, C-3 requested a Tanker Box Alarm to assist with establishing a sustained water supply and support ongoing firefighting operations.
The first-arriving apparatus, Engine 10, Engine 1, and Brewerton Tanker 1, immediately deployed four handlines to begin an aggressive exterior attack. Engine 10’s aerial device was also placed into service until the initial water supply was exhausted.
As additional resources arrived, crews established two independent water supply operations. On the west side of the incident, firefighters secured a hydrant at the intersection of Pardee Road and Sneller Road, laying more than 3,000 feet of supply hose while relay pumping water to the fire scene.
Simultaneously, on the east side of the incident, a tanker shuttle operation was established with a fill site at Mud Mill Road and Sneller Road. Portable water tanks (Porta-Ponds) were set up just east of the residence to supply Brewerton Truck 1 and South Bay Ladder 58 throughout the incident.
Firefighters faced numerous operational challenges, including rapidly advancing fire conditions, limited initial water supply, and extremely hot and humid weather, all of which required a significant mutual aid response and extensive rehabilitation efforts to ensure the safety of all personnel.

On behalf of the entire membership of the Cicero Fire Department, we extend our thoughts and support to the homeowners as they begin the difficult process of recovering from this devastating fire.
We would also like to recognize and sincerely thank the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications for their outstanding work throughout this incident. During a busy holiday weekend while operating with limited staffing, dispatchers managed multiple incoming 911 calls, coordinated the response of fire departments from Onondaga, Oswego, and Madison Counties, dispatched EMS and law enforcement resources, managed numerous radio channels simultaneously, relayed critical priority information, and fulfilled countless requests from the Incident Command staff.
The professionals behind the headset are often forgotten and rarely receive the recognition they deserve, but their dedication and professionalism played a vital role in the successful management of this incident. Thank you for everything you do each and every day.
To our mutual aid fire departments, EMS agencies, law enforcement partners, emergency management personnel, and support agencies, thank you for your assistance and teamwork. Incidents of this magnitude require a coordinated regional response, and your professionalism and dedication were instrumental in bringing this incident to a successful conclusion.
We would also like to thank the many residents and businesses who previously donated bottled water and hydration beverages to our Hydration Campaign. Those donations were put to immediate use throughout this incident, helping keep firefighters and emergency responders hydrated during an exceptionally hot and humid evening.
Thankfully, there were no injuries to the occupants or emergency responders, and no transports from the scene were required.
