Scam alert for anyone with a land use application or development project in Central Point.
The City has learned that scammers are sending fake emails that appear to come from our Community Development Department. The emails use real staff names, the City's address, and accurate details about your project, then claim an "Application Review and Approval Fee" is outstanding and must be paid by wire transfer to finish approving your application.
These emails are NOT from the City. No such fee exists.
Here is how to spot the scam:
🚩 The sender's email does not end in .gov. All City email comes from our own domain, no exceptions.
🚩 It asks you to reply by email for wire transfer instructions. The City never requests wire transfers for application fees.
🚩 It says approval is waiting on payment. Land use fees are paid in full before an application is accepted, so you will never receive a mid-review invoice from us.
🚩 It says all communication must be by email only. We are always happy to talk in person or by phone.
If you receive a message like this:
✅ Do not reply and do not send payment.
✅ If you already sent money, contact your bank immediately and report it to Central Point Police.
This scam is hitting cities across the country. Please share this post with anyone you know who is working on a project in Central Point.

Community Update: Swale & Vegetation Management at Blackberry Run and Boulder Ridge Alley

Starting the week of September 8, 2026, Gomez Landscaping will begin targeted site clearing and maintenance across a 4.41-acre area, with completion by October 9, 2026.

This work is designed to allow city staff to gain access to stormwater outfalls and prepare for high water events by clearing invasive growth, and enhance visibility while carefully preserving the natural character and established trees on the property.

What to expect during the project:

• Invasive Removal: Comprehensive removal of all invasive blackberry vegetation and small trees (under 2.5 inches in caliper).

• Targeted Tree Care: All healthy, established trees will remain. Any small trees marked for preservation by our City Arborist will be protected. Crews will hand-prune and lift lower branches on remaining trees and shrubs to improve healthy growth and overall sightlines.

• Low-Impact Methods: To protect the land, existing root systems, and nearby concrete, work will be completed primarily by hand using small tools and light equipment.

• Swale Protection: No heavy machinery will be permitted within the storm swale area to protect the ground, sensitive vegetation, and watershed infrastructure.

• Full Cleanup: All cleared brush, branches, and debris will be completely removed and properly disposed of off-site.

Independence Day Fireworks Safety Message

As Independence Day approaches, the City of Central Point wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July.

The Fourth of July is one of our nation's most treasured traditions, and many families enjoy celebrating with legal consumer fireworks. Most residents who choose to use fireworks do so responsibly, exercise good judgment, and respect their neighbors. Those individuals are generally not the source of problems in our community.

Unfortunately, illegal fireworks and unsafe behavior continue to pose significant risks to people, property, and our firefighters and first responders. In Southern Oregon, where dry conditions and wildfire danger are an annual reality, a single careless decision can have devastating consequences.

The Central Point City Council believes education, personal responsibility, and reasonable enforcement are the most effective ways to protect our community. While our Police Department and Jackson County Fire District 3 will respond to complaints and enforce the law when necessary, they cannot be everywhere at once. Our shared goal is voluntary compliance and public safety—not enforcement for enforcement's sake.

Know the Rules
Within the City of Central Point:
• Legal consumer fireworks may only be used on July 3 and July 4 between 8:00 p.m. and midnight.
• Fireworks are prohibited at all times in City parks, on public school property, at City Hall, the Police Department, and along the Bear Creek Greenway.
• Illegal fireworks are prohibited at all times unless specifically authorized as part of an approved special event.
• Violations of the City's fireworks ordinance may result in fines of up to $500.

Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly by following these additional safety tips:
• Use only legal Oregon consumer fireworks.
• Have a hose or bucket of water readily available.
• Never allow young children to use fireworks without close adult supervision.
• Clean up all fireworks debris before leaving the area.
• Be considerate of neighbors, pets, veterans, and others who may be affected by fireworks noise.

The City and Fire District will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the holiday. If fire danger becomes exceptionally high due to wind, heat, or extremely low humidity, we may ask residents to voluntarily refrain from using personal fireworks in the interest of community safety.

If you are uncertain whether you can use fireworks safely, we encourage you to enjoy one of our region's professional fireworks displays instead.

Together, we can celebrate our nation's independence while protecting our families, neighbors, first responders, and the community we all call home.

We are aware of the recent discussion regarding Central Point's municipal code related to drone operations.

City staff has been reviewing the existing ordinance and is already working on proposed updates to ensure the code is consistent with current regulations and reflects approaches used by other communities.

Members of the drone community have raised questions about portions of the existing code, and those concerns are being considered as part of the review process.

The proposed amendments are currently undergoing legal review and will be brought before the City Council for public discussion and consideration in the coming months.

A Note About This Year's July 4th Celebration

We appreciate our community's enthusiasm for Independence Day, and we want to make sure you have the latest information as you make your plans.

This year, we will not have a military flyover. We made requests to Portland's USAF Fighter Wing and airbases in Idaho and California, but with current military operations and heightened operational demands, our armed forces are unable to accommodate flyover requests at this time.

We're grateful for everything our service members do — and while the skies may be quiet overhead this July 4th, there's still plenty to celebrate together. Stay tuned for more details about this year's festivities!
