Deadline for applications is this Friday, June 19th, at 4:00 PM.

Due to an upcoming retirement, the Centerville Police Department is taking applications for the position of Police Officer. Applications can be picked up in person at the Appanoose County Law Center, 22158 Dewey Road Centerville, IA. You may also request an application via email at [email protected]. Application deadline is 4:00 PM on June 19th. Civil Service testing is tentatively scheduled for July 11th.

The Centerville Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that temporary parking restrictions will be in effect due to the Relay For Life event on the Square.

📍 Affected Areas:
• Inner and middle parking lanes
• Southwest and west sides of the Square

⏰ Enforcement Begins: 2:00 AM

Please make alternate parking arrangements prior to the restriction time to avoid inconvenience.

🎆 **FIREWORKS REMINDER** 🎆

The Centerville Police Department has received several questions regarding fireworks within the city limits.

📖 **Centerville does not have a city fireworks ordinance.** Fireworks use within the city is governed by **Iowa Code Chapter 727**.

✅ **Consumer fireworks may be used:**
📅 June 1 – July 8
📅 December 10 – January 3

⏰ **Permitted Hours**
• 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM daily

🎇 **Extended Hours**
• July 4 and the weekends immediately before and after: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• December 31: 9:00 AM – 12:30 AM on January 1
• Weekends immediately before and after December 31: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM

🏡 **Remember:**
Consumer fireworks may only be used on your own property or on property where you have permission from the owner.

⚠️ Violations of Iowa Code Chapter 727 may result in criminal charges.

Please be respectful of your neighbors, veterans, pets, young children, and others who may be sensitive to loud noises.

As part of this project, representatives from Law Enforcement Partners will be contacting local businesses to discuss sponsorship and advertising opportunities for the calendar. We want the public and business community to know that these calls are legitimate and are being made in collaboration with the Centerville Police Department.

📬🚨 **PROTECT YOUR MAIL – REPORT MAIL THEFT** 🚨📬

We have seen an uptick in mail fraud cases. Specifically, suspects are targeting individual checks sent to a centralized hub for credit card payments. Suspects are also targeting businesses. The suspects steal the checks from the mail and then use the correct account information to make a new check. Officers take the information from the victims and then forward the information to the United States Postal Inspectors Service, as these crimes usually cross multiple state lines, and in some cases are international.

Did you know that stealing mail is a federal crime that can result in up to **five years in prison**? The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) investigates mail theft and relies on reports from the public to identify suspects and protect our communities.

If you believe your mail has been stolen, don't ignore it. Report it directly to the United States Postal Inspection Service by visiting **uspis.gov/report** or by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer.

📦 Common signs of mail theft:
• Missing letters or packages
• Opened or damaged mail
• Unexpected changes to accounts or billing information
• Missing checks or financial documents

📝 Reporting suspicious activity helps investigators identify trends, hold offenders accountable, and protect others from becoming victims.

🚴‍♂️🛴 RIDE SMART. RIDE CENTERVILLE. 🛴🚴‍♀️

As the weather gets warmer, more people are enjoying bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, and other personal transportation devices throughout our community. The Centerville Police Department would like to remind everyone that safety starts with knowing and following the rules of the road.

Whether you’re riding to school, work, or just enjoying the outdoors, please remember:

✅ Wear a helmet and other appropriate safety gear.
✅ Stay visible, especially during low-light conditions.
✅ Obey all traffic signs and signals.
✅ Be aware of vehicles, pedestrians, and your surroundings.
✅ Ride responsibly and courteously.
✅ Park scooters and bicycles in a manner that does not obstruct sidewalks, ramps, or entrances.

Riders should also familiarize themselves with the City of Centerville’s ordinances, including Chapter 10.80 – Bicycles, Skateboards, Roller Skates and Scooters, as well as applicable Iowa traffic laws.

These regulations are in place to help protect everyone who uses our streets, trails, and public spaces. By following the law and practicing safe riding habits, we can all help prevent accidents and keep Centerville a safe place to live, work, and play.
