Take a seat in the shade! New shade structures are in place over the bleachers at the Oak Grove Park baseball complex! They were just in time for the Centerville Baseball & Softball League tournament over the weekend.

This improvement is part of a districtwide shade initiative inspired by feedback from the community in recent surveys. Your input helps guide how we invest in your parks and how we enhance the experiences that matter most to you.

Thank you for helping shape your community's BIG backyard!

This spring Ethan Hale, Eagle Scout Candidate with Scouting America Troop 530 led his troop through a renovation of the Normandy Garden. This Eagle Scout project undertaking resulted in a complete overhaul: featuring freshly tilled soil, construction of new raised garden beds and completion of other needed repairs. So what is next for that space? This project was designed in preparation for a brand new program: The Grow Together Native Garden Club!

The Grow Together Native Garden Club is a family program that educates and collaborates with participants to learn about and support native plants in their own gardens. Ethan will be at the first program in June leading a lesson about his favorite native plant.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to improving your BIG backyard, Ethan!

It all started with a drawing of a playground.

When Eli designed a playground for the park closest to his home, he asked his parents to send his ideas to us for consideration. While that particular park isn't scheduled for a new playground anytime soon, Activity Center Park is! We couldn't pass up the opportunity to meet such an enthusiastic young park planner!

Last week, Eli and his dad joined us for a visit to talk all things playgrounds. He shared his creative ideas, explored different playground features, learned about playground safety inspections and even left with a BIG book of playground equipment to inspire future designs.

We love seeing community involvement from our youngest residents, and Eli's passion for parks made our day. There are a lot of great days at CWPD, but this was one we'll remember!

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us, Eli! We hope to see you again when plans for the new Activity Center Park playground are ready.

The first week of June is National CPR & AED Awareness Week.

When cardiac arrest happens, the first chance for survival often comes from people nearby. Every additional person who knows these lifesaving skills can make a difference!

At CWPD, all staff (and some volunteers!) are First Aid and CPR certified. Some members of our team refreshed their training today, practicing skills that could one day help save a life.

TIP: You can use the PulsePoint app to track public AED locations. Then, lifesaving devices can be found fast when seconds count! AEDs are located at Activity Center, Bill Yeck, Forest Field, Grant, Iron Horse, Oak Creek South, Oak Grove, Robert F. Mays, Schoolhouse and Yankee Parks.
