Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Romero’s family and peers. 🙏🙏

It is with great sadness that DPS announces the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene.

Trooper Romero answered the call to serve each day with honor and remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting and serving Texans. The DPS family will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of this state.

We are requesting your assistance in gathering information concerning the individual pictured in the attached photos. This gentleman's name is TEVIN GARRETT. Tevin is the SUSPECT in NUMEROUS recent, and past, alleged THEFTS around Shelby County, and possibly surrounding counties as well. He has been arrested three times, back to back, in approximately two weeks. His recent charges involved littering (it appears that he took an elderly lady's money to haul trash off for her and threw it out on a county road. After this discovery and contact with her....he retrieved it and discarded it on another county road), Misdemeanor Theft, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and Felony Theft involving Oilfield Equipment.

By law, he has been afforded the opportunity to post bond on each arrest, and has recently done so twice. Currently he is in our jail and has a $500,000 bond on his most recent Felony Theft charge. Additionally he has a Violation of Parole warrant that carries no bond. Even if he could make bond, there are bond conditions in place to aid in preventing history from repeating itself. Pertaining to the Parole violation......this simply means he has previously been incarcerated in the TDCJ system and the Parole Board saw fit to give him a SECOND CHANCE. That original charge was Burglary.

Many of his alleged recent thefts involve property that can be identified by manufacturers identification numbers, unique identifiers present due to use, wear, etc. and owner applied identification markings. Some cases involve unmistakable evidence clearly documented by video/photographs, as well as witnesses.

HERE IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP. We have connected a number of dots thus far. However, we have reported incidents that are likely attributable to this suspect, stolen property that we can't locate, stolen items directly linked to this suspect where we can't locate a victim, etc. Please check your shops, barns, unoccupied homes, etc. for any missing items. Areas where he seemed to concentrate were the vicinities of Joaquin, Center, Shelbyville, Huxley, Patroon, Ragtown, Hawthorne and McClelland. His presence has also been documented recently as far away as Angelina County.

We ask that IF YOU, OR YOU KNOW OF ANYONE WHO HAS RECEIVED ANY PROPERTY FROM HIM OR ANY ASSOCIATES, PLEASE LET US KNOW. The chances of these items being STOLEN and IDENTIFIABLE are extremely good. This could clearly create issues for anyone found in possession of such items down the road. We certainly do not want his actions to create additional later victims, due to someone unknowingly being in possession of stolen property.

Additionally, if you know of theft-involved associates of this suspect, locations where stolen property may have been concealed, individual/s who frequently receive such property for their own financial gain, etc., please let us know.

This individual has had no issues with allegedly taking property that victims worked hard for, and possibly even made sacrifices to obtain the right way. He has also not demonstrated any hesitation in taking items that victims need to make their living. Even a clearly videoed theft that created a burden for an individual victim, BUT ALSO AN INTERRUPTION IN A PLANNED ACTIVITY OF A LOCAL CHURCH.......the suspect refused to, after multiple opportunities where he knew the collective impact of the property not being located, continued his denial.

If you have any information, concerning this suspect's activities, please contact our Dispatch at 936-598-5601 or you can reach Chief Deputy Mike Hanson directly at 936-234-3598. Working together, we can make a difference! We thank you in advance for any and all assistance provided.

AS IN EVERY SUCH CASE AS REFERENCED ABOVE, ALL SUSPECTS ARE CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.

One Pill Kills.

Fentanyl is often pressed into fake pills or cut into street drugs, such as methamphetamine, he**in and co***ne — often without the user knowing it. And the outcome can be deadly.

Last year, Austin made the decision to turn off its Flock camera network following a public pressure campaign built on misinformation about how the technology works. This weekend showed what that tradeoff can look like.

For nearly 24 hours, three suspects moved through Austin in stolen vehicles, carrying out a shooting spree across 12 separate locations. People were shot. Homes, apartment buildings, businesses, and fire stations were hit. Robberies and additional car thefts piled up as the suspects kept moving.

The response was massive. 200 officers, helicopter support, K9 units, a full manhunt. Even with all of that, the suspects stayed ahead of law enforcement. Then they crossed into Manor, Texas.

Manor is a city of roughly 20,000 residents with a fraction of Austin's resources. What Manor has is an active license plate recognition network and the community support to keep it running. Manor PD located the suspects almost immediately. The spree ended. Residents stayed safe.

We're grateful for the officers in both cities who worked to bring this to a close, and we're glad it's over. Austin is a great city full of people who deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods. Our hope is that stories like Manor's can help inform the conversation about what these tools actually do, and what communities lose when they're taken away.
