Center Point School

Prior to the settlement of the community of Zanzenburg and Center Point, school was taught in shacks and homes. From 1876-1884, the Center Point Academy served as the community’s school. Nowlin donated an acre of land for a school building and a plank building was erected. In 1910, San Antonio architect Alfred Giles designed and J.V. Oppert built a

two-story limestone building. The school officially opened for classes in the Fall of 1911. Students still receive an education in the original limestone building, which serves as an educational and social hub for Center Point.

The Pirate Bistro inside the Center Point High School is run by culinary students who cook the food, work the dining room, and handle the business of keeping a restaurant going. They even grow fresh herbs on site.

It's open to the public on select days by reservation, and seats in the Wardroom are limited, so reserve by the monthly deadline. Carry-out orders are welcome, though there is no delivery.

Every meal supports the program and gives these students real experience they can carry into a career. Dining in helps most, since that is where they get to practice running the room.

Our students from the Pirate Bistro put their culinary skills on display this past Saturday evening as they competed in a local salsa contest, bringing both their creativity and school-based culinary program to the community. The Pirate Bistro team prepared and served two homemade salsas—one red and one green for attendees to sample. While they did not take home the winning title, the evening was a tremendous success in another important way: it gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills and introduce more members of the community to the Pirate Bistro. 🏴‍☠

We have been closely monitoring the weather forecast throughout the day, and the forecast is now calling for clear weather at the time of graduation. Because the skies are clearing up for tonight, we will be holding graduation at 7:00 at Pirate Stadium as originally planned.

Thank you all for your flexibility and cooperation today. We are so excited that the weather is cooperating, and we can't wait to see you all at the stadium tonight to celebrate the Class of 2026!
