Take the 5-Minute Fire Safety Check
Fire safety starts at home. A few minutes of checking your smoke alarms and reviewing your family's plan can make a meaningful difference when every second counts.
Take a few minutes to check these five things:
☐ Test Your Detectors
When was the last time you tested your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors? Test them regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
☐ Check Detector Age
Do you know how old your smoke detectors are and when they should be replaced? Check the manufacture date on the back of each alarm. Most smoke alarms should be replaced every 7-10 years, but follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your model.
☐ Review Your Family's Plan
Does everyone in your household know what to do if an alarm sounds in the middle of the night? Make sure everyone knows the escape routes and where to meet outside.
☐ Check Your Coverage
Do you have adequate fire detection throughout your home, especially near sleeping areas? Smoke alarms should be installed on every level, inside each bedroom, and outside each separate sleeping area.
☐ Verify Your Monitoring
If you have monitored fire detection, is your system communicating properly with Security Central? Not all smoke detectors are monitored by SCI, so contact us if you're unsure which devices are covered by your monitoring service.
One More Important Question: What Happens If a Fire Starts While No One Is Home?
Monitored fire detection can help alert our monitoring team when a covered device sends an alarm signal, allowing the appropriate response to begin even when you're away.
Not sure whether your fire detection is monitored or when your detectors need replacing? We're happy to help you review your system and answer your questions.
Your family's safety is worth five minutes.
