There is never a place for political violence.
The Mercer County Democratic Party unequivocally condemns the attack on Dr. Amy Acton today at the Canfield Fair.
We can disagree. We can debate. We can have deeply different beliefs about the direction of our state and our country. That is democracy.
What we cannot do is allow those differences to become threats, intimidation, or violence.
Political candidates, volunteers, campaign workers, and members of the public should be able to participate in our democratic process without fear of being attacked simply because of what they believe or who they support.
Our thoughts are with everyone who was injured today, and we are grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded swiftly. We wish those injured a full and speedy recovery.
Disagreement is not an excuse for violence. Democracy depends on all of us choosing a better way.
The Mercer County Democratic Party stands firmly against political violence in all forms, regardless of who is targeted or which side of the political aisle is involved.
