Cedarburg Auxiliary Police/Emergency Management

Cedarburg Auxiliary Police/Emergency Management The Cedarburg Emergency Management/ Auxiliary Police department serves the City of Cedarburg and the surrounding communities for mutual aid.

Our department consists of approximately 15 volunteers who handle traffic control at parades, festivals, special events, and emergency situations such as fires and accidents. Our members go on weather watches and we also have a drone for scheduled events and emergency situations, such as fires or search and rescue. We house our four vehicles out of our Emergency Operations Center located on Western Avenue.

After 26 years with the Cedarburg Police Department, Sgt. Brian Emmrich retired at the end of his shift today. Brian has held many roles over his career, but we think it's safe to say that his favorite was being partnered with K9 Jake. Jake and Brian built wonderful community relationships that endure today. Brian has also been instrumental as our special events coordinator for Strawberry Festival, Country in the Burg, and County Fair, making all of those events safer for our Community.

Congratulations, Brian! We'll miss you, but we wish you all the best for a wonderful, happy and healthy retirement.

Last week Sheriff Knowles presented two outstanding citizens a Certificate of Commendation and OSZO Citizen Coin of Appreciation for their efforts in putting out a house fire on February 4th, 2023 in the Town of Cedarburg. Sgt. DeSmidt and Dep. Zilke also received Certificate of Excellence awards for their actions.

Sgt. DeSmidt and Dep. Zilke arrived on scene and began to knock down the fire with fire extinguishers. The majority of the fire was extinguished, however flames reactivated. Randy Baures, a retired North Shore Fire Fighter and his son, Chandler Baures, a member of the Cedarburg Emergency Government Auxiliary Police, assisted Deputies by grabbing shovels and buckets from inside the garage and throwing snow on the flames to help extinguish the fire. Randy also entered the garage and shoveled out the burning pile of debris to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Their immediate actions and willingness to help were critical in extinguishing the fire and reducing its spread further. Their quick actions exemplify the coin’s values of respect, courtesy, cooperation, and teamwork.

Thank you to Randy and Chandler for their fast action and dedication to helping other citizens!
