When passion meets perseverance, great things happen!
Cedar Rapids Firefighter Zack Howell brought it all together and out-fished the competition this week at the Major League Fishing tourney at Lake Murray, South Carolina.
With this win, he's qualified for the Championship Series in 2027, brings home major bragging rights and a nice check.

Congrats, Zack. Your hard work is paying off and we're pumped for your success.

It's been a busy week at Cedar Rapids Fire!

Our most recent group of academy trainees is approaching their first full year of duty. This week, they took their final skills tests to prove they are ready for service to the community as full- fledged firefighters. This includes medical, technical and firefighting skills.

We also trained for 3 days with Simulation in Motion-IA to remain sharp on our medical response skills.

That's one of the best things about a well-run fire department, constant testing, training and a willingness to learn.

Ready when you call...we love you, CR!

If you're waiting until the last minute, well, you've done a great; job but now is the time to act.

Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments are asking for your help to fill the pantry shelves at the Freedom Foundation. We are serving those who served.
We're looking for donations of non-perishable food and personal care items that will be given to the Freedom Foundation next week so they can continue their outreach efforts for veterans in need.

Donation totes are available at every fire station in Cedar Rapids (during daytime hours) at the police station (505 1st St SW) 24-hours a day. Can't make it by to donate? No problem. CRFD mixed it up with The Morning Scramble on Z102.9 this morning. Clare, Eric, and our own Captain Colton Dall covered water safety, outdoor cooking and fireworks rules.
And somehow, Clare worked in Dr Seuss lines that helped it all make sense.

Stay safe, CR. We're here for you.

CRFD Remembers...50 years later.
On May 20, 1976, Cedar Rapids Firefighters Mel Goebel and Robert Simon lost their lives in service to the Cedar Rapids community. They passed away during a training session on the Cedar River and their loss is still felt today.

Join us at 1:00 this afternoon for a remembrance ceremony at Sunner Park (Valor Way SW next to CRPD). We will hear from family members and release a wreath in their honor. If you can't make it to Sunner Park, we will stream the event on our page.
