What’s Happening Wednesday? 🚧🚜

The new parking lot, located diagonally from our building, is really taking shape. Once complete, it will provide parking for staff and our NTS vehicle fleet.

Along the alley side of the building, crews are making great progress on the installation of new office windows.

Horizons' NTS (Neighborhood Transportation Service) program was delighted to provide shuttle service for Friendship Force of Cedar Rapids - Iowa City!

During their outing, participants enjoyed visiting some of our community's unique landmarks, including the historic Veterans Memorial Building and taking in the views from Mount Trashmore.

Thank you to Friendship Force for allowing us to be part of your adventure. We're proud to help connect people to the places, activities, and experiences that make our community special!

🚧 What’s Happening Wednesday? 🚧

Walls came down and now new ones are going back up! Progress is moving quickly as our new office spaces begin to take shape, and additional windows are being installed to help brighten the space.

Construction has also started on a new parking lot for our NTS transportation vehicle fleet, located kitty-corner from our building. This added space will help us better accommodate our vehicles while creating more room for all of our senior center attendees!

We had a great time at the Corridor Conference on Aging this past Wednesday! We were excited to connect with more than 100 attendees and share information about Our Place, including the exciting progress being made, as well as information about our programs.

What’s Happening Wednesday 🚧

This space once housed our Mental Health Department before becoming home to Covenant Mental Health for many years. After sitting vacant since 2024, we’re excited to breathe new life into it once again!

As part of our renovation project, this area is being transformed into a welcoming new home for our Financial Wellness Department, a collaborative conference room, and leadership offices creating even more opportunities to serve our community and support those who rely on Horizons every day.

We can’t wait to share more progress as this transformation continues! 🛠️💙

Volunteers Needed! Help Deliver More Than a Meal.❤️🚗

Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteer route drivers to help serve our community! Every day, we have up to 12 open routes that need caring volunteers to help deliver meals and friendly check-ins to neighbors who depend on us. With 43 total routes each day, every volunteer truly makes a difference.

Getting started is simple:
✅ Complete a short volunteer application
✅ Watch quick training videos (about 15 minutes total)
✅ Do one ride-along with staff or a trained volunteer before taking your own route

You won’t be on your own, we provide:
📁 Route folders with helpful information
📱 An app with step-by-step route details
🙋 Staff support in the bay before you leave if you have questions

Whether you can help once a week, once a month, or fill in occasionally, your time matters. Delivering meals also delivers connection, kindness, and reassurance to people in our community.
