Join our staff for a moon-lit evening as we explore some of our park's most mysterious residents.

After night falls, a whole new world emerges at Cedar Hill State Park, full of wonders and mysteries.

Though often ignored in favor to their butterfly cousins, moths are far more numerous and diverse than their day-flying kin, pollinating countless flowers and supporting our local ecosystems in ways we are just barely starting to understand. Come gather around our mothing stations to meet and learn about some of Cedar Hill's most mysterious residents!

When: Saturday, September 12th, 2026, from 9:00pm-11:00pm

Where: Penn Farm Parking Lot

Bring: Water and a snack if you need one.

Cost: Free with $7 per person park entry fee or presentation of a Texas State Parks Pass. Children 12 and under can enter the park for free.

Learn tips and tricks for saving water in the garden!

Summers in North Texas can be brutal, and keeping your garden plants happy through drought can be a chore. Thankfully, there are many easy and budget-friendly ways to keep your flowers and veggies thriving through the heat. Join a ranger around the campfire to learn how we can protect our plants, and our wallets, through the heat!

Free Marshmallows for roasting and S'mores will be provided!

When: Friday, September 4th from 7:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Campfire Area at Penn Farm
Bring: Water, and a snack if you need one.
Wear: Good shoes for walking and dress for the weather!

Come out and try your hand at archery at Cedar Hill State Park!

Join us to learn the 11 steps to Archery Success! During this instructor-led program, archery coaches will walk you through the basics of how to use a Mathews Genesis bow and Easton arrows. All bows, arrows, and instruction will be provided by Cedar Hill State Park.

No registration is required- feel free to come and go!

Individuals must be at least 12 years old and have the ability to draw back 10 pounds of weight.

When: Saturday, August 29th from 10:00am-12:00pm

Where: Penn Farm

Bring: Water and a snack if you need one and dress for the weather!

Join us for a Full Moon Hike under the August Corn Moon!

During this ranger-led hike, we will be exploring the nocturnal adaptations of different animals and testing out our own senses in the dark. This hike will follow our paved Shoreline Trail and take us approximately 1 mile.

When: Thursday, August 27th from 8:00pm-9:00pm
Where: Shoreline Trailhead at the North Boat Ramp
Bring: Water, and a snack if you need one.

This afternoon's Penn Farm Tour has been cancelled due to extreme heat- please drink plenty of water and look out for signs of heat-related illness, including nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. If you notice symptoms, retreat to a vehicle or building with Air Conditioning and try to lower your body temperature with ice or cold drinks. Stay safe this weekend!

Join a Ranger as we explore the sounds that emerge in nature throughout the summer season!

Have you been wondering what those sounds outside your window are during these hot summer months? The wildlife has fully woken from their winter slumber and they are letting us know through the noises they make! Join us as we investigate the sounds heard throughout North Texas as the heat turns up this summer. During this program, we will investigate the different summer animal sounds and test your knowledge with a game of bingo!
