Parents, as the use of AI increases, now is a good time to speak with your children about the misuse of AI and how AI-generated images can cause harm to others. Thank you, .

👧Don't Fawn Over The Fawn👦

From the DNR: Mom came back for lunch - then she's off again. Leaving her fawn alone in a hiding spot between feeding sessions is actually a protective measure, but she doesn't necessarily venture far. She's usually nearby, keeping a watchful eye on the fawn.

We spent the month of May on the range practicing shooting drills. Our training includes drills to increase rapid decision-making, weapon control, and accurate shot placement. We are appreciative of the ongoing partnership with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office - Waterloo, Iowa and the use of the Sheriff's training facility.

Join us in congratulating Captain Kari Rea on earning her 25-year service pin!

Captain Rea started with Cedar Falls in 2001 as a part-time Community Service Officer (CSO) while attending the University of Northern Iowa. She began her career as a Cedar Falls police officer in 2002. She was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2018 and then Captain in April of this year.

During her career, Captain Rea was named Officer of the Year in 2013 and the RJ Voss Supervisor of the Year in 2025. We thank her for her continued dedication to our city!

To our CF community:

Cedar Falls Police investigated a report received on May 25th regarding suspicious activity and a possible attempted kidnapping reported to have occurred the evening of May 24th near North Cedar Elementary.

After an extensive investigation, including review of video footage, officers confirmed that no suspicious activity and no attempted kidnapping occurred. The facts show that children were walking near a vehicle with its hazards activated. An individual then exited the vehicle and walked to a nearby house. At no point did the individual follow, chase, or otherwise interact with the children.

Social media can be a valuable tool, but it can also lead to the rapid spread of misinformation and fear in our community. We encourage residents to rely on verified information and allow law enforcement to thoroughly investigate reports before conclusions are drawn.

We appreciate the ongoing partnership of our local community in notifying us of suspicious behavior. Remember to always report suspicious incidents directly to law enforcement so they can be properly investigated. Through 911 if it is an emergency, or the non-emergency number: 319-291-2515.

This is a good opportunity to talk with your children about being aware of their surroundings, not wandering off alone, and telling a trusted adult or law enforcement about anything that concerns them.

Thank you for your support, Cedar Falls.

This month, members of our Fire Division, Police Division, and MercyOne Northeast Iowa paramedics are participating in a multi-agency training focused on a multi-vehicle, multi-casualty incident. Scenarios like this help us strengthen coordination, improve communication, and ensure we are prepared to work together effectively when real emergencies happen.

Realistic training is critical. By practicing together in complex, hands-on situations, our crews build the skills, confidence, and teamwork needed to provide the best possible response for our community.

A special thank you to our role players - Kitarra, Amber, Abby, Chrystal, Ben, and Elizabeth - and to Rasmusson Towing for providing the salvage vehicles that helped make this training possible. Their support allowed us to create a more realistic environment and better prepare our responders for the challenges they may face in the field.

As you head out this weekend, please help protect yourself, your passengers, and everyone on the road:

🔶Buckle up and stay alert every trip, every time.
🔶Drive distraction-free — put the phone down and stay focused.
🔶Slow down — give yourself extra time, expect increased traffic.
🔶Never drive after drinking alcohol — plan for a safe ride home before you go.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.
