A quick but heartfelt thank-you to Congresswoman Celeste Maloy

We don't want this one to go unsaid, Cedar Valley owes a real debt of gratitude to Congresswoman Celeste Maloy. Her work helped bring an additional $3.25 million in federal funding to our effluent reuse project, the plan to recycle treated wastewater so we can ease the strain on our stressed aquifer. It's exactly the kind of support that turns years of local effort into reality. Once it's running, the project is expected to reclaim around 3 million gallons a day for irrigation and other non-potable uses, keeping that much drinking water in the aquifer for our growing community. 🌱 Love your lawn AND our water? Here's how to do both.

Summer's here in Cedar Valley, and sprinklers are running all over the county. But here's the truth: most lawns get a lot more water than they actually need. Overwatering wastes water, runs up your bill, and draws down the same aquifer our whole community depends on.

The good news, there's a free, dead-simple tool that tells you exactly how much to water each week. ✅

📋 The Utah Weekly Lawn Watering Guide gives customized, county-level recommendations based on real conditions - temperature, precipitation, wind, and soil moisture, and yes, Iron County is right there on the list. It's updated every week, so just check it and set your sprinklers to match.

A few simple habits that add up fast:

💧 Water early morning or evening - never between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., when most of it just evaporates.

🌬️ Skip windy days - above about 5 mph, much of your water blows off-target and evaporates.

🔁 Don't run the sprinklers right after a good rain - let nature do the work.

🧠 Upgrade to a smart controller -Utah Water Savers offers rebates ($75–$200) to help cover one.

Cedar Valley's water future just got a major boost and Congresswoman Celeste Maloy is a big reason why. She helped secure an additional $3.25 million in federal funding for the Cedar Valley Water Conservancy's effluent reuse project the effort to recycle treated wastewater for community use instead of drawing down our already-stressed aquifer. That federal support is the difference-maker. As General Manager Paul Monroe described it, the funding moves the project "from basically the 50 yard line to the finish line." Years of local work, pushed over the top by leadership in Washington fighting for Southern Utah's water. (News Talk KSUB)

And the payoff is real: once it's running, the system is expected to recycle about 3 million gallons of water every single day water that can be put toward irrigation and other non-potable uses, keeping that much drinking water in the aquifer for our growing community.
