🔥 Training Day: Heat, Hard Work, and Dedication! 🔥

The Cedar Bluff Fire Department would like to give a massive shoutout to Donnie and Ricky Dye for their incredible performance this weekend! 🚒

These two spent their time at the Bristol VA Fire Training Center, putting in the sweat and the hours during the Firefighter I Live Burn. This is one of the most intense parts of the journey, and seeing their dedication to the craft and this community is inspiring.

⏳ The Finish Line is Near!

Donnie and Ricky have stayed focused through every drill, and with only a few more weeks to go, they are right on the verge of finishing up their certification! We couldn't be prouder of the progress they've made.

👨‍🏫 Mentorship in Action

A special thanks also goes out to Josh Salyers for getting in some valuable instructor time at the training center. Having our own experienced members helping lead the way ensures our next generation of firefighters is prepared for anything.

Please join us in the comments to cheer on Donnie and Ricky as they enter the home stretch, and thank Josh for his leadership! 👏🔥

🚒 Training Recap: Thursday Night Drills 🚒

This past Thursday, the Cedar Bluff Fire Department was out in force to assist the town with a controlled brush pile burn. While these burns help keep our community clear of debris, they also provide a priceless classroom for our team.

Making Every Drop Count

The primary focus of the evening was getting some much-needed hose time for our Junior Members. Under the watchful eye of our senior interior firefighters and officers, our Juniors practiced:
Nozzle Techniques: Mastering different spray patterns for maximum efficiency.
Line Management: Learning how to maneuver heavy charged lines across uneven terrain.
Scene Safety: Monitoring fire behavior and wind shifts in a controlled environment.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication these young men showed. They didn't just stand back—they got their hands dirty and gained the kind of hands-on experience that you just can't get from a manual.

A Special Thanks
Thank you to the Town of Cedar Bluff for the opportunity to train, and to our neighbors for your patience while we managed the smoke and equipment in the area.

Our Juniors are the future of this department, and seeing them step up this week makes us confident that Cedar Bluff is in good hands.

🚒 NEW DRIVERS ON THE ROAD!

Big shoutout to our latest round of EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) students who took to the roads last night to get cleared to drive.

We’d love to show you some photos of them behind the wheel, but honestly? We were a little too busy white-knuckling the dashboard to grab the camera. ✋🏾⚪️

In all seriousness, while we may have tried our best to raise the Chief’s blood pressure a few points, everyone did a fantastic job. We are proud to announce we have a few more capable hands ready to safely operate the apparatus and serve the Cedar Bluff community.

Great work guys!

🚒 Clean Bays, Clear Minds! 🚒

There is no "down time" at the station! Thursday evening, , the crew at Cedar Bluff Fire Department traded their fire hoses for scrub brushes and pressure washers.

A clean station is a safe station. Keeping our apparatus bays spotless and our trucks gleaming isn't just about pride—it ensures that our gear is inspected, our floors are slip-free, and we are ready to roll the second a call comes in.

Why we do it:
Safety First: Removing oil, grit, and grime prevents accidents in the bay.

Equipment Longevity: Keeping the salt and dirt off our trucks means they serve Cedar Bluff longer.

Professionalism: We take pride in the tools we use to protect our neighbors.

Next time you drive by and see the bay doors open, give us a wave! We’re proud to keep our home—and yours—in top shape.

🚒 TRAINING THURSDAY: Back to the Basics

Your Cedar Bluff crews were out in force this past Thursday night, sharpening the skills that make the difference when seconds count.

This week, we took a deep dive into Engine Company Ops, focusing on the "science" behind the fire stream. It’s not just about turning a handle; it’s about mastering the physics of water.

What we covered:
The Math of Firefighting: We drilled on friction loss—calculating exactly how much pressure is lost as water travels through different hose lengths and diameters. A pump operator’s job is to make sure the guys on the nozzle have the perfect reach and "punch."

Water Conservation: In our area, we don’t always have a hydrant on every corner. We practiced "holding the line"—conserving our tank water effectively to darken the fire while waiting for our tankers to establish a steady water supply.

The Big Guns: We got the Deluge Guns (Master Streams) into play. These high-volume monitors move a massive amount of water (GPM) and require precision pump operations to keep them running without depleting our resources too quickly.
Why we do it:

Training like this ensures that when we roll up to your door, the transition from "tank water" to "established water supply" is seamless. We train until we can’t get it wrong, so we’re ready when you need us most.

Special thanks to the crew for the hard work and for keeping the equipment mission-ready!

Virginia’s spring fire season is here, officially Feb. 15 – April 30. During that time, the statewide burn law is in effect, which prohibits outdoor fires between midnight and 4 p.m. 🔥🚫

Don't be fooled by the snow! Most of Virginia is in a drought caused by months of below-average rainfall. Already this year, DOF has responded to 80 wildfires that have burned nearly 800 acres.

The best ways you can prevent wildfires:
🔥 Wait until after the fire season to burn yard debris
🔥 If you must burn, avoid windy days
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended
🔥 Know the state burn law and local restrictions

Get more tips, and learn about the 4 p.m. burning law on DOF’s website: https://ow.ly/3SsV50Yey8q

🏈 SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AT THE STATION 🚒
What a night at Cedar Bluff Fire Department! We traded the sirens for the big screen tonight as we gathered for our Super Bowl watch party.

There’s nothing quite like the brotherhood and sisterhood of this department, especially when you add:
🍕 The Food: Let’s just say nobody is going home hungry tonight.
🗣️ The Stories: From "remember that call" to "the one that got away," the stories were flowing as fast as the snacks.
🙌 The Crew: Having our members and families all under one roof reminds us why we love serving this community.

Whether your team won or lost, it was a victory for the CBFD family.
