Cazenovia HS senior Ella Blair has been awarded the runner-up prize for the inaugural New York State of Poetry award. The New York State of Poetry program was offered this school year by Teachers & Writers Collaborative in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts. We invited schools around the state to register to participate in the program. In addition, a student could register independently if their school did not participate, which is how Ella Blair participated in the program. 59 schools, representing over 5,000 students across the state participated in the program, which involved reading and writing poetry. Of those, 33 students had their poems published in a printed anthology and were invited to read at events in New York City and Albany. In addition two students received special recognition for excellence -- the New York State of Poetry award. The winners were selected by former state poet laureate Willie Perdomo. Ella Blair was selected as runner-up. The winner was Fatemeh Sima Amiri of Shaker High School.

We're excited to share that Cazenovia has once again been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants as one of the 2026 Best Communities for Music Education.

This honor reflects the continued dedication of our students, staff, administration, and community in supporting and valuing music education. We are especially proud to have received this recognition for multiple consecutive years—it speaks to the strength and consistency of our program.

Music education plays a vital role in students’ overall development, fostering creativity, collaboration, discipline, and confidence. It’s encouraging to see that commitment recognized on a national level, and we look forward to continuing to grow and strengthen these opportunities for our students.
