Cavendish Volunteer Fire Department Chief's Report 2025

This year I obtained a state grant to rehabilitate the dry hydrant on Atkinson Road. The work of dredging the pond was completed last fall. Our members have also cleared the brush around the dry hydrant on Hoey Road. We have upgraded the scene lighting systems on our two engines and rescue trucks and purchased three new flashlights for Engine 3. We also had our SCBA tanks hydrostatically pressure tested to ensure safe operation.

The department hosted a Vermont Emergency First Responder class. Fire fighters from Ludlow, Reading, Plymouth, and 3 from Cavendish attended. We also hosted a community CPR class.
We participated in the annual town wide yard sale by hosting a Pulled pork BBQ. We sold Christmas tree and wreaths for fundraising.
Our members have been doing medical training with Reading Rescue, training at regional fire schools and in house training.

On Wednesdays we liaison for Meals On Wheels. They often use our refrigerator to keep food cold until picked up by a Meals on Wheels delivery person. We continue to offer Blood Pressure checks Monday through Friday 9am- 4pm.

This year I am planning a Stop the Bleed class, an annual community CPR class as well as a babysitting class.
I am also planning to host another Vermont Emergency First Responder course and possibly and Emergency Medical Responder class.

We currently have one new member that is interested in pursuing EMS opportunities and one new member that will be training as a firefighter.

Wild land/illegal burns- 3
Alarm investigations- 14
Misc fires- 5
