“What was it like in the 90’s at CSVFD?”

🚒 Wagon and Engine 3 had open, rear facing seats

🚒 Ladder 3 was an American La France Tractor-Drawn Aerial

🚒 Rotator Lightbars instead of LEDs

🚒 Diesel for apparatus was $0.89

🚒 South County was staffed all by volunteer fire companies

A lot has changed since the 1990s at the Cave Spring Firehouse, but what has remained the same is our departments commitment to better serve our community and those around it.

Earlier this month, four members (FF Cole Binner, Jaden Coller, Chris Harless, and Sam Clifft) attended the Forest Fire Department Training Days in Forest, VA.

This two day hands on course covered topics such as Search and Rescue, Firefighter Rescue, and Water Can Confidence. This type of training allows our members to get hands on experience in different atmospheres with some of the best fire instructors on the East Coast.

Our members attending these training events are a direct reflection of their commitment and drive to be better and to be ready when our community needs us. It also is a reflection of the support of our community, because without your support their attendance would not be possible.

Today we recognize firefighters for their extraordinary commitment, exceptional courage and for their selfless service. Tragically, we also remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

To every firefighter and those that support them across the world, no matter what country, what uniform you wear, or if paid or volunteer:

You help and protect us without wanting recognition or reward. When other people are running away, you are there.

Today on International Firefighters’ Day, we say THANK YOU.

🔥WORKING FIRES 🔥

L103 staffed with 4 CSVFD volunteers responded to the 2500 block of Creekside Dr for reports of a structure fire. Units arrived to find a large garage fully involved. Units worked to control the fire and conduct overhaul.

During this incident, units from North County responded to a home explosion and structure fire. Units found a home completely involved in fire. That incident brought resources from Roanoke FireEMS Department and Salem Fire & EMS Department.

Over 20 CSVFD volunteers responded to the station to respond to an additional 4 calls and staff additional apparatus. In addition to staffing all the units at the Cave Spring Fire Station, 6 volunteers are staffing the Hollins Fire Station.
