Please vote YES on Measure 17-126!!

Thursday afternoon, May 14 was a perfect storm of warm temperatures, windy conditions, and a few people trying to burn the last of their brush piles before the end of the day. It was also the perfect storm of "stacked" calls. The first call came in at 3:43pm for a grass fire in the 6000 block of Caves Highway. All on duty personnel headed that way. Then, 16 minutes later (!) a second grass fire was called in the 3000 block of Rockydale, and moments later was upgraded to a structure fire (for an outbuilding).

Unfortunately, these "stacked" calls seem to be happening with greater frequency. And when we have limited resources available for a single call, it doubly challenges IVFD when calls are stacked. We appreciate our mutual aid partners that come from the Grants Pass area to provide coverage and support in the district.

Please vote YES on Measure 17-126! We need our six 24/7 firefighter/EMTs to remain on full-time duty rotation. Thank you!

PLEASE VOTE!!! Ballots are due Tuesday, May 19th. Please vote YES on 17-126 to maintain our six IVFD Firefighter/EMT positions for the next five years. Voting yes will continue the 24/7 coverage and swift response from our first responders that you have come to expect, and that this community deserves. We cannot continue to provide those essential services without your support. PLEASE VOTE!!!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION – IVFD LOCAL OPTION LEVY, MEASURE 17-126

Q: How can I help the fire department?
A: We ask you to share this information with your friends and neighbors. We are asking for your YES vote to keep our fire department providing the highest level of service response that we all expect. Additionally, if you are willing and able, find out how you can contribute as a volunteer – as a Community Emergency Response Team member, Support and Rehab Team, and/or a Firefighter/EMT.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION – IVFD LOCAL OPTION LEVY, MEASURE 17-126

Q: Why do we need six full time firefighter/EMT’s?
A: Overall, our call volume has increased, with numerous occasions of “stacked” calls – a second call comes in while we are responding to the first incident. Additionally, (nationwide) volunteerism in the fire service is a shrinking resource. We are unable to maintain the highest-level of 24/7 service response without paying for staffing coverage.

More questions? Come to the Open Forum/Town Hall meeting at IVFD Station 2 on Thursday, May 7 at 5:30pm, 18455 Redwood Hwy, Selma OR IVFD Station 3 on Monday, May 11 at 5:30pm, 10 Lone Mtn. Rd, O’Brien.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION – IVFD LOCAL OPTION LEVY, MEASURE 17-126

Q: What is the history of local tax option levy measures for IVFD?
A: The initial local tax option levy was passed in 2017 for $0.50/$1,000 of assessed value, which funded four firefighters. In 2022, this levy was renewed by voters at the same rate of $0.50/$1,000 of assessed value, which continued the four firefighters. This current Measure 17-126 will replace the current $0.50/$1,000 of assessed value with a new rate of $0.99/$1,000 of assessed value, which will be in effect until 2031.
