The Department operates six regional transfer stations, which were originally established to serve areas without access to solid waste disposal services. However, private and municipal service providers have since expanded their capacity and coverage, now meeting the
community’s needs. Additionally, operational costs at the transfer stations have risen sharply due to higher transport and disposal expenses. This has led to a persistent revenue deficit, now covered by taxpayers’ dollars from the County’s general fund. To eliminate redundant services and support the County’s commitment to responsible financial management, the Department is proceeding with closure of its six transfer stations.

To learn more about why the County is considering closure of its transfer stations, please visit the Resident Resources Guide at https://www.maricopa.gov/6829/Transfer-Station-Closures There, you can find frequently asked questions, the Environmental Services Solid Waste Service Area map to help identify disposal providers in your area, and a subscription link to our bulletin to receive updates about next steps in this process.

Maricopa County Will No Longer Operate Transfer Stations Beginning Jan. 1, 2027

Development is pushing past current County facilities, while private and municipal providers are filling the gap to ensure residents have access to proper waste disposal.

The public can find out more information on the Maricopa County transfer station closures here: https://ow.ly/UQgi50Z7QX2 or by calling the Maricopa County Business and Community Liaison, Logan Pieman, at 602-316-0295.

This process will include a robust public outreach and listening component. The Environmental Services Department (ESD) will hold a virtual stakeholder workshop to provide background on the transfer station closures and to hear residents' concerns. The workshop will be held on June 18th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. As more details become available this post will be updated.

Cave Creek Rodeo Days board president Ernie Bunch gave an overview to the Town Council on June 2 of the success of the 2026 Cave Creek Rodeo Days held last March. In addition to Ernie, members of the Cave Creek Rodeo Board were in attendance. The CCR presented the Town with a framed poster of the 2026 event, designed by Bertram Signs & Graphics.

The CCR has raised $233,113 for local charities. Thank you, CCR, for all you do for our community's non-profits and for promoting our town's western heritage.
