The Department operates six regional transfer stations, which were originally established to serve areas without access to solid waste disposal services. However, private and municipal service providers have since expanded their capacity and coverage, now meeting the
community’s needs. Additionally, operational costs at the transfer stations have risen sharply due to higher transport and disposal expenses. This has led to a persistent revenue deficit, now covered by taxpayers’ dollars from the County’s general fund. To eliminate redundant services and support the County’s commitment to responsible financial management, the Department is proceeding with closure of its six transfer stations.
