Week 2 Update – Fire Academy of Kentucky 🔥

Firefighter Arthur has officially completed Week 2 at the Fire Academy of Kentucky.

The academy is demanding both physically and mentally, and each week brings new challenges that push recruits to grow, adapt, and improve. We are proud of the dedication, discipline, and determination Firefighter Arthur continues to demonstrate while representing our department.

Please join us in cheering him on as he continues through the academy. Keep pushing, papa T — your department stands behind you every step of the way.

Big day for our department.

Today, Firefighter Arthur started the Fire Academy — the first member in our department’s history to take this step.

It takes courage to step into the unknown and commit to something bigger than yourself. We’re proud to stand behind you and can’t wait to see what you accomplish.

This is just the beginning. The whole department is behind you.

——-Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Safety——-
PSA From the Catlettsburg Fire Department!

After Christmas, we see a spike in fires caused by lithium-ion batteries found in many popular gifts—phones, tablets, toys, power tools, e-bikes, hoverboards, and rechargeable devices.

These batteries are powerful, but when damaged, overcharged, or used incorrectly, they can overheat and ignite.

Here’s how to keep your family and home safe:

✅ Use the right charger
Always use the charger that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer.

✅ Don’t overcharge
Unplug devices once fully charged. Avoid charging overnight or when you’re not home.

✅ Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface
Keep batteries off beds, couches, and carpets. Never charge under pillows or blankets.

✅ Keep away from heat and water
Do not leave devices in cars, near heaters, or exposed to moisture.

✅ Inspect batteries regularly
If you notice swelling, cracking, leaking, strange smells, or excessive heat—stop using it immediately.

✅ Store and dispose properly
Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Recycle damaged or old batteries at approved locations—never throw them in the trash.

❌ Never modify or mix batteries
Do not puncture, crush, or use batteries that don’t belong to the device.

🚨 If a battery catches fire:
• Call 911 immediately
• Evacuate the area
• Do NOT attempt to extinguish it unless you can do so safely

Your safety is our priority. Let’s enjoy our new gifts safely and keep Catlettsburg safe!!!
