There will be Commercial Water and Safety Training at the Elochoman Slough Marina (500 2nd St) at 3:00pm today where they will be using emergency flares. This is ONLY a training and not an actual emergency. Please DO NOT call 911 if you see emergency flares at the Marina today after 3pm.

SKAMOKAWA, WA
April 29, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., The Wahkiakum County 911 center received numerous 911 calls regarding an incident in the 300 block of East Valley Rd, in Skamokawa, Washington.
The calls were first reported to be three people that had been assaulted with wounds to their heads. Those wounds were originally thought to be gunshot wounds but were discovered to be blunt force injuries from a weapon.
Emergency medical services responded to treat the three victims. One patient was life flighted, and two were transported by ambulance. Their condition is unknown currently.
Wahkiakum County deputies, Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office k9, pacific County k9, the Washington State Patrol and A Longview Police Department drone all searched throughout the night and was unable to locate the suspect, a 30-year-old, black male, approximately 6 foot tall, in the area.
The subject has been a resident on this property, and we do not believe him to be a threat to the public.
Early Thursday, we began receiving calls that the subject was back at the property. After assembling a team to respond to the area, units from Washington State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Lower Columbia SWAT team responded back to the scene on East Valley Rd to contact the suspect.
The subject had barricaded himself inside a residence.
At 7:00 the suspect had been located he was taken into custody. He will be booked into the Wahkiakum County Jail.

The subject that that assaulted the three people in Samokawa has been apprehended this evening. He was taken into custody at 6:00 p.m.
Due to this being an active and open case this is all that is being released for right now.

At this time the only suspect information we can release is that he is a black male, approximately 30 years old and approximately 6 feet tall.
We believe that there is no threat safety of residents of East Valley Road at this time. Due to the nature of this active and ongoing case, information is limited.

Earlier this evening, calls came in to dispatch for a disturbance. Reports said they had gunshot wounds. No one was shot! One fled on foot and may be driving a white and tan vehicle.

Expect delays on SR 409 in Wahkiakum County for utility work Jan. 27-30
CATHLAMET – Travelers who use State Route 409 in Wahkiakum County should plan for delays.
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will work with Charter Communications to restore underground fiber optic cable lines near Cathlamet.
Fiber optic cables bring high-speed internet and data to local homes and businesses. When buried underground, the cables are better protected from bad weather, helping keep everyone connected.
What to expect
Tuesday, Jan. 27 through Friday. Jan. 30:
• Travelers along northbound SR 409 between East/West Sunny Sands Road at milepost 0.0 and Tate Road at milepost 0.5 will take turns moving through a single lane with flaggers, daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travelers are reminded to slow down, stay focused and expect delays through the work zone.
