The burn ban has been expanded to now include Clark County. Open burning is not allowed.
There have already been several field fires this week in Clark County, damaging farmer's crops and machinery, caused by burning trash and debris.

It is too dry to burn.

Thank you for your consideration of others.

The Pleasant Township Fire Department will have 2 levies on the ballot this November 5th.

The first is a RENEWAL of an existing 2.1 mill levy that has existed since 2005. This levy is the bulk of our operating money and currently pays for Equipment, Utilities, Payroll, Vehicle Maintenance, Etc.

The 2nd levy on the ballot is an ADDITIONAL levy of 2 mills. This levy is needed to offset the rising expenses of doing day to day operations of our Fire Department. This levy was on the ballot twice in 2023 at a rate of 2.5 mills, not passing either time by a slim margin. The decision was made to reduce it to 2 mills this year. This ADDITIONAL 2 mill levy will generate the Fire Department $193,000 per year and will cost the property owner, per year, $70 per $100,000 of valuation. Passing this levy will give the Fire Department the money to continue operating in a safe and effective manner.

This ADDITIONAL levy is the first NEW tax money we have asked for since 2005. We have been operating on the RENEWAL levies since then. We have stretched our money over the years with grants and EMS transport soft-billing, but the rising costs of doing business has forced us to ask for additional tax dollars. The decision to ask for more of your money was not taken lightly and we feel it is necessary.

There will be an Open House at the Fire Station in Catawba on Tuesday Oct 1st at 6pm, with the regular monthly Pleasant Township Trustee's meeting to follow at 7pm at the Fire Station. The Fire Chief's will be present at the Open House and the Trustee's Meeting to answer any questions about the levies, Fire Department operations, or any other topics. We can also help you calculate the annual dollar amount the ADDITIONAL levy will be based on your property valuations listed on the Clark County Auditor's website. The Pleasant Township and Catawba Village public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Fire Chief's will also be present during Trick or Treat hours on Saturday October 26th from 6 to 8pm to answer any questions.

We THANK YOU for your continued support over the years.

Dear Resident of Pleasant Township! We are asking for your support this November on passing our fire and EMS levies. The .5 mil EMS renewal is an operation levy to cover EMS personnel costs and training. It has been used to help with the cost of EMS equipment, medical supplies, etc. since 2005. We have kept spending costs down by purchasing only what is necessary and utilizing grants and other income sources whenever possible. This levy is falling short of our operational needs due to the current cost of operating. The additional 2.5 mil levy is needed to supplement the above levy with increasing operational costs for the EMS and fire department in many areas such as fuel, maintenance, utilities, payroll, dispatching fees, fire equipment and medical supplies. The additional levy will also help the fire department to maintain and acquire equipment, vehicles, building upkeep so that we can respond to emergencies within Pleasant Township and the Village of Catawba. This is of particular importance due to the distance to surrounding hospitals. On average transportation can take up to 15 or 20 minutes to reach these hospitals.Currently we are able to staff a day shift crew through the week and on Sundays with on call services in the evening. It's our hope that we can be competitive and maintain these current staffing levels. It's imperative for you to have a fire and EMS department that operates at a level that is safe for the community, the firefighters and emergency medical personnel. If you have questions, you are welcome to attend an open house at the fire station on Sunday October 22nd, noon to 6 p.m. You are also welcome to stop by during Trick or Treat on Saturday October 28th from 5 to 8 pm. You can also call the station number to leave a message and we will return your call to assist with questions.Thank you! Your support is very much appreciated!

Volunteer fire departments are struggling to recruit new firefighters, as stricter training requirements, coupled with market factors and changing family dynamics mean fewer people are choosing to volunteer their time with the fire service.
